Exciting when you've backed both, for sure

That is assuming I consider it has not been poor in any previous years?

It's always shite. Every year people get carried away saying it'll end up potentially being a hot renewal, and it never is

Some good horses have won it (Cue Card, Imperial Commander) who went on to better things, and Vautour is the absolutely standout and whilst he's the best thing that has happened to this race, it's also the worst in terms of what could have been.

Shite race overall though, if Min (who we all know is/has been worse than Douvan/Un De Sceaux/Altior his whole career) is the standout class angle, and if you don't like Min, Riders Onthe Storm and A Plus Tard, who ran in 0-145 handicaps last year, does not prove this has ever been a good race, or that this year is a good renewal.

      • What your saying is its not as CLASSY as other years but it will still be as good as a race as any

No, I'm saying it's never classy.

It'll be fine, same as any other.

Call me mad but I think Min will do a Vautour in this & hack up.....up in the van, get Frodon out of his comfort zone & be gone by the time APT runs on for second....the way this is shaping up he’s gone / going in all my multiples at 3/1+

You won't find many people happier than me on here if that does happen.

I've been banging that drum all year

Although not a horse I'm looking at putting in multiples yet, but there is a chance he's just a class above this field!

You'll get people quoting this tomorrow saying he won't get up the hill, flat track bully, poor Cheltenham record etc..... all wrong

Tend to agree with this, APT could be a star but feel like lack of a prep can't help, Min deserves a festival win.

Makes me laugh the Cheltenham thing: Take away Altior he’d have won a supreme, a Queen Mum, injured in his Arkle year & wrong tactics last year....horse is all class imo - too easy to be dismissive of track record on results alone!

                    • IMO, this is a good race and I'm really looking forward to it. Min is a very good horse and would be considered superstar status if Altior had not been around. You then have APT and Riders who are potentially very exciting. Ok, they both ran in handicaps last season but IMO, it's a no brainer to try and get a festival winner if you think you have a horse that is at least 20llbs well in. I never understand why some people seem to think that if a horse runs in a handicap, then it can't be a great horse. Just off the top of my head, 2 of the top chasers/hurdles in Cyrname and Paisley both were running in handicaps at the start of last season.
Frodon in this race is also a good horse and will add to making it a good race.

I'd put myself right up there, being the Min fan against Altior every season and being shot down, and rightly so

All year? What's your name, Gavin Lynch? Well behind the times Kev, this was last seasons chat

Haha true, although it would have been me wanting him up in trip then too

Nobody is saying handicappers can't turn into great horses. It's just factual that it's much less likely.

If Min doesn't run to his level, it will be won by a handicapper that's progressed to being a graded performance, as that's all that's in it against him ...

Totally agree with this. If Min runs anywhere near his best, he will take some beating IMO

IMO A Plus Tard was a graded horse running in a handicap last year and on a line through duc des genievres he'd have won the arkle. I agree about handicappers turning into graded horses is rare but to call A Plus Tard a handicapper for running in one and bolting up is harsh.
