  • i'd mark him up for that, most of tizzards better ones have been left with a lot on for their debuts, drifted in the market too, he ran better than i expected. Not sure about the CHh but i think he ran better than was expected.

I dont think it is myself, at all. IMO Theres only a handful that can likely run into the 160s.

The likes of elderado allen / elixir de nutz / ballyandy/ coeur sublime...... haven't a hope in hell of that IMO.

Time will tell, I can see a shock on the cards like last season was.

          • With all thats happened to the runners coming for this race i personally think whoever wins this in March is gunna be a one off winner of this race.

            • Jessie didnt say which race but had this to say about Supasundae "He wasn't quite ready to run at Christmas, so we'll aim towards the Dublin Racing Festival in Leopardstown at the start of next month," Harrington added.

I think there is only the Irish champion hurdle over 2ml available at the DRF

                • With it being such a poor race, I have been looking for some big priced runners for this. I backed the 70/1 on Not So Sleepy after his handicap win each way and it got little support on here.

Just backed these two for much smaller stakes on the exchange:
                  - Petit Mouchoir 89.0
                  - Getaway Trump 460.0

Any thoughts or have I officially gone mad?

I will give up punting horses if either of those two win a champion hurdle lol!

                      Most probably.

I do still like Not So Sleepy though. I think he might be a definite place threat off the front of the field isn’t absolutely huge (although the weaker it is on paper, the more likely that a big field becomes).

With these two, I just thought they have enough positives to them at crazy odds.

Petit Mouchoir has come second in two grade 1s this season now and is a previous Champion Hurdle third. He’s really only got one race to go for if running at the festival (there’s no obvious reason why he wouldn’t).

Getaway Trump was clearly flattered by that rating last year. He did travel well I thought both times over fences but his jumping let him down. He did show something in those two races though. I’m prepared to just completely write off that Kempton race as it was messy and choppy. I’ll give him another chance at 460.0! If he stays hurdling as he should at this stage, and with that loft handicap mark, it’s only ever going to be the champion Hurdle for him if he does go there (every chance they’d save him for a flat track like Aintree I guess but why would they really).

I can’t believe this race has come to the point where I’m trying to persuade myself I’m not totally crackers for backing a handicapper, a horse I thought a few months ago had gone at the game and a failed chaser. But here I am, on all three of them.

                        • Not so sleepy has definitely got a place chance, I was also looking at supasundae... think that’s already been mentioned on here. Cornerstone lad must be of interest as well.

I backed Not So Sleepy the day the prices went up to win LTO, so I’m very interested in his next races.

2M Handicap Hurdles are a bit of a special interest of mine, and where I tend to have success over the season.

Entries out tomorrow for the Betfair Hurdle, and the trainer stated that was to be his next race. Rated 144 so I will probably back him for that at the present time, rather than 40s or 33s for the Champion Hurdle. But more than happy to have him in mind for Cheltenham too.

I assume you realise he was running off 127. And is now 144. So unless hes still over a stone well in. After already going up over a stone . He shouldn't be anywhere near the places.

If 144 is fair, he should be beaten 20L

In October 1996 I was stood in Coral bookmakers and backed what was an average flat Horse of Martin Pipes running in a Stratford Handicap hurdle off a lowly 117. He duly won and went onto win a couple more before running in the Tote Gold Trophy (now Betfair Hurdle) off 140. He blitzed up in that, making all, winning by 9 lengths. He was raised 20lbs for the win and took his chance in the Champion Hurdle. He again led from start to finish and won easy by 5 lengths. His name was Make a Stand. Never say never. Dreams do come true.
