Agree. Lets hope Hendo doesn't pull BD out....

    • Interesting debate.
Im hoping Samcro turns out to be a star because racing always needs great horses. His only blemish came when falling(looking like the winner)at Punchestown. We can forgive him that. We'll have a much better idea of this division after the FF. Its also heartening to see a really good field for the FF.

        Down Royal airbrushed from history

Unless Samcro is very good on Saturday the novice chase markets will be getting a big shake up.

        • It's a tricky one.

Faugheen was given some egg and spoon races to start life in open company as a hurdler- and even though he was a 4/9 shot at DR, he was facing a much trickier start than Faugheen ever did + now he is facing a 2x CH winner on his second start.

On RPRs Samcro ran to same level as Faugheen did in open company debut, obviously it's different as he lost and Faugheen did it very easily.

What if Samcro ran to a length of BDA? Hendo's quotes would suggest BDA will be needing the run, so it's possible it would still be viewed as a poor run, but he'd have achieved a fair bit i think...Would Elliot then believe he has enough left to work with for the CH or would he admit defeat?

They could be in a tricky position!

          • I think nothing has been made of the fact that it's probably the first time Samcro was asked for something serious and he probably didn't know his job. I expect he will have learned loads from his last run as well as coming on physically for it.

Because they know he's running and what sort of money comes for him from punters that think hes a superstar. that's the main basis of any antepost bookmaking.

Would they not want to get him in the book if he's not all that, not dodging him and taking on BD.

                    • Anybody heard an update on Supasundae? 8/1 for the Hattons Grace looks a great bet if that is still the plan...

PP going 8's from 5's suggest they know something unfortunately.

Why would you get him in the book at a bigger price than hell be on the day. As a trader that makes no financial sense.

That appears to be what they are doing with BD. Unless he is not an intended runner.

You'll be suprised there. They'll be close to jt fav. samcro might even be fav such as the hype around him.

If you back samcro now at 2/1 And trade out on the day. You'd make quite a bit of cash.

                              • The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner will certainly have his mettle tested as he is due to take on dual champion Buveur D’Air and Irish star Samcro.

Summerville Boy’s Festival success came in last-gasp fashion after mistakes at the final two flights meant he only overtook Kalashnikov in the dying strides.

“He had a good summer, he’s been back in since the middle of July and since then we’ve been gradually stepping him up and he’s ready to go now,” George told At The Races.

“Hopefully it will be a good platform for the rest of the season.

“We had a few mistakes in the latter part of his races, but essentially he’s a good jumper. I think he’s got an unbelievable amount of talent, he was just looking around, so it’s greenness more than anything.

“We’ve been happy with his schooling so I don’t see it being a problem.”

Samcro beat Black Op, a stablemate of Summerville Boy in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle in March and George feels that gives him a good sense of the form.

“Black Op was the only horse to get near to Samcro and he got the last wrong that day. Without that, he’d have put it up to him, but he’s a different horse completely to Summerville Boy so we’ve a good idea where we stand. We’ll just keep that to ourselves for the time being!” he said.

“Obviously they have been talking Samcro up as the best to come out of Ireland for some time and if that’s the case, then we’ll be happy to come behind him, but we’ll give it our best shot and see how we get on.

“We couldn’t be happier, he’s in at the deep end but hopefully we’ll have something to build on.”
