Haha, I'm a sucker for the french triumph hurdle horses. Did pretty well last year trading out for a nice profit (16pts I think) as I was scared of we have a dream but couldn't back him as I should have took The 66s. The one from maccaire "never adapt" and the munir and suede "adjali"are the 2 solid ones who eill deffinately run this season. But i also like that it's been a long while since JP sent mullins some raw ammo. If your backing the any race market you know they're going to win on debut and shorten right up, if they dissapoint In the likes of a spring juvenile hurdle Then, they're going to be giving you a real live one and close to fav for the fred winter anyway
I'll add them all "any race" - Glad you highlight the French horses as they have the potential to shorten quite dramatically and it really suits the way I bet. To be honest having a few pokes at 25/1+ should suit the way most people bet especially when French racing/French recruited horses do still tend to be under estimated if you catch them right!
and Any Race makes so much sense with the way the Fred Winter too as you say
Just throwing this out there, I've actually backed these half and half which is a tactic I deployed last year at times. Take Never Adapt, he is 33s (or around 37 boosted) for the Triumph versus 16s any race (around 18s boosted). I appreciate Scooby got this one at 33s any race which would have made it a more straightforward decision.
The way I see it is the Triumph is the main aim for Never Adapt and Adjali so I'd prefer to have half my stake on them at the big price for that race and if they don't make the grade I've got a bit of cover on the any race market. Adding if they are not good enough for the Triumph then there is no guarantee they will be high up in the Fred Winter market if they make it.

Yes I hadn't realised the price had halved.
I will probably take 22/1 about Adjali any race
and 36/1 for Never Adapt Triumph

Yeah certainly appeals to me in these circumstances. Where I would certainly go 100% any race is for a horse like Carefully Selected following the excellent target debate on the AB thread when the target really isn't clear and the gap in price is not as extreme

Yeh that's what I would have done the same, i forgot the price had gone on never adapt and id be very dissapointed if he diddnt make the triumph itself

I noticed you've backed Energumene for the Bumper FM. Do you have any info on him? He was one that caught my eye reading the comments in One Jump Ahead.
Ive backed him also after Tom Lacys comments in the OJA, that was one of the main things I took from the book. He makes the comparison with Blackbow, I have it in my mind that Blackbow didnt show Mullins very much at home, can anyone confirm this, its possible Ive just made this up!!! Cheers

He showed plenty at home,
After race at*Leopardstown Tue, 26th Dec, 2017 (1st)**Patrick said he worked very well one day when I was away and he was right. He's one to look forward to, and will improve as he's so big and backward. Hopefully he's one for the Cheltenham bumper, and this is usually a good race.**W P Mullins

It's a complete stab in the dark. I really rate Tom Lacey and the quotes from him and comparisons with Blackbow in OJA were enough to get me to back Energumene blind.

Thank you to all the posters who are sharing their antepost books. It's really helpful.
One horse I'd be interested in hearing your opinions on is Disko. He started last season well winning his only start before injury ruled him out. His previous season ended impressively, beating Anibale Fly at Punchestown.
Has anyone heard any updates on his fitness for this year and possible targets (Ryanair or Gold Cup). I think he'll be 8 next year so ideal age for a shot at the big one, but was wondering if he's not recovering well as no one has mentioned him as a possible bet so far.
How on earth do you pronouce the bumper fancy? Enner-Gum-En-Ey?
I like Disko but not going to back him until he is at very least declared for a race. The fact he's already behind the others isn't going to change his price this side of Christmas anyway...
