    GOLD CUP ENTRIES

    Festival Winners in Bold
    Festival Placings Underlined

    Anibale Fly (-)
    Bachasson (U)
    Balko Des Flos (5F)
    Blaklion (P1-)
    Coney Island (-)
    Cue Card (1421--FF)
    Definitly Red (7PF-)
    Djakadam (F224)
    Double Shuffle (3-)
    Edwulf (P)
    Killultagh Vic (61--)
    Mala Beach (-)
    Might Bite (1)
    Minella Rocco (12)
    Native River (923)
    Our Duke (-)
    Outlander (6F0)
    Road To Respect (1)
    Saphir Du Rheu (0-265)
    Shantou Flyer (F-)
    Sizing John (321)
    Sub Lieutenant (2)
    Tea For Two (P-U)
    Tenor Nivernais (70U-9--)
    The Last Samurai (-)
    Total Recall (-)
    Valseur Lido (032-)

As expected, the Gold Cup SHOULD comprise of the "best of the best" (take that with a pinch of salt) - BUT you would expect there to be a fair amount of festival form on show.

    Those with Festival form:
    Blaklion @ 25/1
    Cue Card @ 50/1
    Djakadam
    Double Shuffle
    Killultagh Vic @10/1
    Might Bite @ 3/1
    Minella Rocco @ 20/1
    Native River
    Road To Respect @10/1
    Saphir Du Rheu
    Sizing John @ 6/1
    Valseur Lido

From previous winners, Minella Rocco's festival record is SUPERB and at the prices I will add him EW.
(I haven't thus far and appreciate that he has been bigger, but still too big)

Also Blaklion, NRNB makes perfect sense. I know that they said a few weeks back that he wouldn't be going for the Gold Cup, but why would they pay more money to keep the entry alive?

I may also add Double Shuffle EW for small stakes. Previous placed festival form, improving all the time and over-priced.

(For the record, I do like Killultagh Vic, but not at 10's. I had a cheeky point on him in August at 50's which I had expected to lose - but I'm now very happy that I may get a run for my money)

      CHAMPION CHASE ENTRIES

      Altior (11)
      American Tom (-)
      Ar Mad (-)
      Ball D'arc (-)
      Charbel (5F)
      Doctor Phoenix (-)
      Douvan (117)
      Forest Bihan (5)
      Fox Norton (32)
      God's Own (245)
      Great Field (P-)
      Min (2-)
      Ordinary World (3)
      Politologue (04)
      Special Tiara (6331)
      Tell Us More (6--)
      The Game Changer (940)
      Top Gamble (4)
      Top Notch (252)
      Un De Sceaux (121)
      Yorkhill (11)

Of these - nothing completely unexpected.
Yorkhill, UDS, Top Notch, Fox Norton all likely to go elsewhere.

However, as the prices (and given that we may well go with 7 or fewer runners - I may have a small stakes dabble at Ordinary World EW, NRNB.
From discussions on the other threads, he will have too high a mark for the handicaps and could be ridden for a place (in behind Altior and Min).
Not one for big stakes - but at 50/1...

probably a very rookie question but this is my first year betting antepost, If there is 0only 7 runners will ew still pay 3 places if you back it now? Obviously on the day it would only be 2 but is antepost any different?

As far as I am aware you get the place terms as per when you stake your ante post bet. If they state 3 places then this is what you get regardless of runners, but I stand to be corrected.

Thank you, very useful and adds a bit of place money to be made in the CC where its likely to be a small field

Edwulf was nailed on for a place as well at worst last year.

Just looked back at the last 10 runnings and only ONCE was there LESS than 8 (2013)

                There were however:
                8 runners in 2008 and 2012
                9 runners in 2010 and 2015
                10 runners in 2016 and 2017
                11 runners in 2011 and 2014
                12 runners in 2009

Never a HUGE field BUT (despite stepping on my own point!) it is likely that you would still get 3 places on the day...

                  Gold Present (2)
                  Killultagh Vic (61--)
                  L'ami Serge (432)
                  Le Prezien (8)
                  Min (2-)
                  Outlander (6F0)
                  Sub Lieutenant (2)

                  Traffic Fluide (6)
                  Un De Sceaux (121)
                  Valseur Lido (032-)
                  Waiting Patiently (-)
                  Yorkhill (11)

It all depends on who turns up.
Un De Sceaux, Yorkhill & Douvan all have an abundance of winning festival form.
At a bigger price - I'd like Valseur Lido to come here and 25/1 looks on the big side.

One thing that had escaped my attention (and probably more relevant to the Stayers Hurdle section) is how good L'ami Serge's festival form is. 4, 3, 2...

                      Melon - CH - 16/1
                      Willoughby Court - JLT - 16/1
                      Might Bite - GC - 10/1
                      Monalee - RSA - 16/1

Obvs they all need to get there but Lucky 15 2 places to break even (ish) and all placing returns 88 points profit?

Just revisiting this thread, as from what I can gather returning horses from the previous years festival have done very well this year.

I've only briefly looked at the results but I think plenty of horses won that ran at the festival last season.

Will try to have a look at this tomorrow if no one else gets the chance to beforehand.
