Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

We're looking to upgrade the 'hosting CPU' so I've set up a crowdfunding project.

      • I made the poor mistake of backing multiples antepost rather than singles

Multiples are probably better as the festival gets closer when targets are more clear etc, this is my first season betting AP though so...

          • My first two multiples this season were the two forum Yankees..
Definitely the way forward as targets become clearer (and prices get shorter!)

            • Yeah sadly ive already done the multiples and now wishing id done some singles instead. Managed to get on Thistlecrack at 6/1 and ive done Defi de Seuil in a single along with Cause of Causes

              • hi all... back once again for another fes prep and sleepless nights no doubt as talk of targets changing begins!

I have already made a number of significant singles bets across the boards over the past few months... now its time to hit the multis. Yes these are shorties before its pointed out, but thats my game. Trying to bump up some targets that i missed (DD and thistle mainly) as well as topping up my strong fancies. Anyone any thoughts on the below (other than the obvious risk with Faugheen)?

                4 folds
Douvan, Thistlecrack, Unwimh, Death Duty 30s
Douvan, Thistlecrack, Yorkhill , Death Duty 35s

                CH/Mares combos
                Faugheen, Annie, Douvan 18s
                Faugheen, Annie, Douvan, Yorkhill 82s
Faugheen, Annie, Douvan, Death Duty 71s
                Faugheen, Annie, Douvan, Unwimh 77s
                Annie, VVM, Douvan 21s

                4/5 folds:
Altior, Faugheen, Douvan, Death Duty, Thistlecrack 64s
                Altior, Douvan, Yorkhill, Unwimh 42s
Altior, Douvan, Yorkhill, Death Duty 38s
Altior, Douvan, Unwimh, Death Duty 34s

                Getabird Combos
                Getabird, Yorkhill, Unwimh 85s
                Getabird, Yorkhill, Death Duty 90s
                Getabird, Unwimh, Death Duty 72s

                • This is similar to an approach that I used the year before last and I fell flat on my face! However, you do only need one of these to come in (assuming level stakes) and all is good.

The biggest flaw with this approach (as you know) is that you are very dependent on Douvan. Granted - if he starts and stands up, he wins.
BUT 2 months is a long time and if Faugheen doesn't make it and Douvan either gets injured or falls (god forbid) - it's all down to Getabird...

Having said all that... if they all show up in the right place, I would imagine that a few of those would come in.... Worth the risk!

(As an aside, my biggest AP stake thus far (by a margin) is on the Altior/Douvan/Thistlecrack Treble - followed by a VERY speculative Treble on Faugheen (CH), Annie Power (Mares) and VVM (Stayers) @ 125's.......so I am by no means against such tactics!)

                  • Deebee/Leman

There's a number of Ricci horses in there, are you not tempted to take the even money 4 or more winners ?

                    • I've gone a little ante post crazy this year, the latest:

                      Yanworth - champion hurdle
                      Defi De Suiel - Triumph
                      Cantlow - Cross Country

                      E/W Trixie
                      Treble pays 170/1

At Evens, I'd rather back Altior or Thistlecrack. There are a number of fragile Ricci horses and not sure he has the 'banker' novice hurdler this year either.

My Ricci Treble was VERY speculative (125/1) and placed using a Free Bet

                        • Thanks Leman.. all risk like you say but you only need one to come off to make it pay. I generally just use this method to get a boost early doors to bets that i would be having anyway.

Getabird is the perfect example as he runs first - meaning im set for DD etc which (providing all is well between now and then) is likely a bet id be having anyway on the day and probably at a much lower price. Your Altior/Douvan/Thistle bet is looking very tasty!

Theres no fun in that though Ista and these pay a tad more than evens If i were to go down that route i think id rather wait till the week of the fes and pick out the most like 4/5 ricci winners and pit them in an accy and would pay much better than evens

                          • That's fair enough Leman and I don't disagree, I just wondered whether you wanted to have several runners to cheer on

                            • I cannot wait to post all mine again haha.

My only concern with relying on Mullins' is the worry that your festival could be over on the Monday?

Now I have a lot of the combinations covered and am not saying it won't work, and I hope it does, because "we" will all be swimming in gravy together... but this year I've made a big effort to ensure that any Mullins' Non Runners don't put me way behind... there is certainly value in taking him on too?
