2026 Stayers Hurdle

Well I banged on all season last year about ballyburn not looking like a chaser. I sincerely believe that he could’ve made an impression in the champion hurdle division. Now, I just think he’s got a lot to prove. Just not for me

MYSTICAL POWER

We started off going down the Champion Hurdle route last season and I’m not sure it was the right decision. I’d imagine we’ll go down the staying hurdle route. He was going very well in the Stayers’ Hurdle when Paul had to pull him up before two out, and Paul was in no doubt he’d have finished in the top three. That race will probably be his target this season.

….Mystical Power 100-1 with cash-out, might get nibbled.

So, do we know why he was pulled up ? Was he impeded? Was it an injury picked up in the race ? Did he bleed? No explanation at all

Have watched the race back and I think it was a Tack issue. He was cruising through the race at the time.

I backed him this year and must admit didn't even know what happened to him.

….only ran 3 times last season, twice over 2m and although highly tried he made no impression. Then he was upped in trip for the Stayers and got pulled-up. Still only a 6yo, all seems a bit odd given his excellent Nov hurdle form.

PP/BFSB & Sky have now cut that 100-1 (into 66s) this morning, presumably on the back of Mullins’ comments. BFred still 100-1.

Still a hell of a lot to prove though to be a Stayers horse based on bare facts. At this stage he probably is a 100/1 shot .

….but we love our 100-1 shots, especially when 6yo, 2nd in a Supreme, won a Punchestown Champion Novice Hurdle and being training by Willie Mullins with a festival target

Edit; Betfred cut the last of the 100-1 to 33s.

I wouldn’t give up on Mystical Power, however I have him down as a potential Coral handicap runner if he comes back and struggles to win a grade over the 3 mile trip.

Currently rated 151, down from 154. Wouldn’t take much to drop to high 148’s. Jimmy won with ease off 146

I’ll be monitoring closely

Good spot. One to watch over Christmas time.

Hewick 95% certain to run in Charlie Hall at Wetherby this Saturday. The Stayers Hurdle is his current Festival destination.

That's annoying! Wanted to see him at DR on Sat. That race is cutting up big time fs.

Surprised me that the Stayers could be where he ends up. Not sure what to make of it.
Was there not talk one other year of supplementing into Stayers? Or am I imagining that?

Just seen hes not even entered at DR now.

Stormy weather Thursday and Friday. May be problems with the ferries.

If we get enough rain we'll go back to the Hatton's Grace for another go but, if we don't, I'd have no problem at all waiting for the Long Walk at Ascot. We feel he's better with gaps between his races but he was so good at Punchestown for the last two seasons after Cheltenham, so we'll keep him a bit busier this season. He's been a great stayer and there's no reason to think he won't be just as good again. The Stayers' Hurdle is the aim again.

There was a decision to be made about whether to send him straight over fences or keep him over hurdles and we've decided to do the latter. There are plenty of races for him over hurdles. He could go to Down Royal for the Listed hurdle over 2m next Friday or else there's the Lismullen Hurdle at the Navan racing festival next month. I want to step him up to 3m and that'll happen at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting, all being well.

Odd starting out over 2miles for The Yellow Clay ?

….seems to be part of a plan;
