Cheltenham 2018 Ante post bets

Got to say all you guys having antepost dabbles on the Mullins horses in anything but the 'Win Any Race' market are playing with fire. Good luck to you :)

Ha, just realised that message came from the man who had his biggest antepost bet in years on a Mullins horse last year :highly_amused:

Has anyone got or seen the RP jumps book? Snippets from Willie on melon staying over hurdles, Bacardys and Battleford going chasing, let's dance, Limini and Augusta Kate targeting mares race. Also Getabird could be supreme horse.

I think Getabird becomes a Supreme horse if Annamix is another Senewalk tbh, and he's now covered himself by saying so (not that he has to of course).

totally agree, we all know what WM is like. Take things at this stage with pinch of salt.

Id be suprised if getabird dosent go up in trip. Crying out for 2 1/2 imo. And ricci got an abundance of 2 milers

Annamix also a completely different horse to senewalk, who came of the flat. With no reccomendation, just a punt on a flat winner with a walk in the park breeding who they originally bought to run in juvenile races

Me too Scooby, was thinking Getabird will step up in trip too!

Have added a combined Hype/Improvers EW Lucky 15
Annamix - Supreme
Samcro - Neptune (Bally...)
Auvergnat - X-Country
Lil Rockerfella - Stayers
3pts total outlay - 3,500 pts potential return :) (40pts for 4 placed horses)

If the races are right and the hype has substance - I can see all four placing...

Had a small ew double on Annamix and Samcro couldn't resist. Only got 10 and 8 but rather be on then not.

This place is going to explode when Samcro goes for the Albert B, Fayonagh for the Neptune, Finians Oscar for the RSA and Apples Jade for the Stayers.:devilish:

SkyBet have an interesting special in the RequestABet...

Our Duke 6/1 (non runner no bet)

I'm yet to see the non runner no bet condition before but it does open up more possibilities IF they are willing to do this on the majority of horses.

On the odds - he is 10/1 (best price) for the GC outright with SkyBet and a general 8/1 elsewhere. The 6/1 is half tempting though even if he wins well throughout the season as I imagine he will, the likes of Thistlecrack, Might Bite and Yorkhill WILL be the sexier horse and always imo keeping Our Duke's price bigger than it probably should be. The KG will be viewed as a much stronger race than the Lexus at Christmas too which will reflect the odds.

Certainly may offer some options if they are willing to open this condition up to most requests though...

That is an incredibly interesting 'request a bet' ! Not for this horse, for all the points you made but I wonder what price they'd offer with some 'more fragile' beasts?

Yeah could be a help with the likes of Faugheen, Thistlecrack and Co coming back from injury plus 'Willie Mullins bingo'

I've been been sat here all smug thinking I had a fairly decent bet on samcro any race at 12:1

Turns out it is one unit

Devastated

Who did you think you placed it with HF? I placed a decent bet on him with Hills before the any race market was formed and the guy who sorted it for me said it wouldn't appear in my bet history..... Could you have done the same?

I did place with hills at 12s

Thought that was the case but I think the open bet married up with when I requested it. I'll contact their customer service. Fingers crossed!

I took screen shots of my bet reference number just in case they didn't honour it. Give them a call, they should be able to see it, even if you can't.

The season has at least started now :devilish:
As it is responsible gambling week - and I've now gone past 250 pts staked :highly_amused: so thought I'd look at my own position...

I did a bit of anaylsis again on my 2017 and saw that I was in profit for 16 races last season (not including ANY multiples), two races were level, and 10 races I was negative for.

The 10 negative we're:
Supreme
Mares Hurdle
Coral Cup
Fred Winter
Bumper
Stayers Hurdle
Browne Plate
Kim Muir
Albert Bartlett
Fox Hunters

To break them down a little:
4x handicaps - now this was actually quite interesting for me, as I looked at the ante post selections that I had made in all the handicaps and I only have 1 "positive", which was presenting percy at 20/1 in the Pertemps - which incidentally on the day I thought that was a busted flush too, so I had gone in on the race again.

I actually thought I'd gotten some decent prices but looking at my "wins" in 2017 they were only placed on the day of the race (or a day or two before, not sure exactly when jono made the case for Tully East but I didn't back in until the Monday...). I wouldn't have profited from any of the handicaps (bar Pertemps) with my ante post selections.... so this year I will TRY NOT to have an ante post bet in any of the handicaps no matter how good they seem to be. That will be tough, as I do love looking for them, and I did have some nicer prices place... BUT, the facts are I was NOT profitable in an ante-post format.

Backed too many
Supreme - Hype horses caught me out, and I did end up backing every single horse in this race (good job or I wouldn't have had the winner and it would have been even worse) Without non runners I actually was 5 pts up.... however I had 19 pts in non runners. I already made an effort this year to back "any race" and I have been a lot more reserved, but this was the only race that my approach of going for the "green book" didn't work. So the lesson for me here, I think, is to just be more cautious with regards to target and wait for NRNB (which I will add, I had 28 pts worth of!)

The rest
Mares, Bumper, Stayers, Potato, Fox Hunters
I 'took a view' in these races that didn't pay off! VVM or Limini, Western Ryder, Unowhatimeanharry, Death Duty, On The Fringe
Any of those would have been quite healthy swings, and am not really too concerned about any of them. I had some BIG prices about the majority of them and as I mentioned, none of this includes multiples, so for some of the races I didn't need to have 'singles' on as other horses we're covered (like the stayers and ... actually no other - just the stayers)

This time last year I'd already had the Altior, Yorkhill double that was the crux of my festival last year... I hope I've already stumbled across that kind of success again :triumphant:

Any thoughts are welcome :encouragement:

I don't think you can rule out having an ante post bet in the handicaps because of your results at one festival, the sample size is too small imo.

Good point, I'll check from 2010 tonight.
