Charlatan Kentucky Derby / Triple Crown

Know sweet FA about US racing although watched and read a bit last night. Charlatan won as you would expect 1/5 shot to and is clearly very exciting and got clipped into 5/1 for the Derby. Only dampener if you like is that stablemate Nadal won the 2nd Division Race later on the card in equally impressive fashion, going off 5/4 not having an easy a run as Charlatan and against a more competitive field he also won in a shade quicker time and is also into 5/1 for the Derby. Very difficult to say which is the better horse at this stage, and while Charlatan is probably more exciting due to the nature of his victories, Nadal’s form has a bit more substance. Almost sounds like I know what I am talking about ...haha

I am only a casual observer but of the two performances I preferred the win of Nadal. It looked as if Charlatan had an easy lead in a relatively weak race. That said he looks to have more substance than Nadal.

Looks like Charlatan & Nadal are going to meet in the rearranged Belmont on 20/6, now the first leg of the triple crown at a reduced distance of 9f.

Now all 3 legs of the Triple Crown are to be run at pretty much the same distance, 8s for any horse to win it represents some value IMO. Whoever wins the Belmont will be pretty short to follow up in Kentucky, especially if they were an impressive winner?

Couldn’t cash out with Skybet and Hills. Just have to see what happens.

Charlatan needs 45 days off and will not run in the Belmont Stakes and won't make the Kentucky Derby either, trainer Bob Baffert said. "Maybe Preakness."
