Novice Chasers 2027

Loved that performance from KDM, I know he’s beaten nothing but the jumping was very impressive……… lovely debut

Didn't see it Eggs. Main thing for me is how was
I thought a little cautious at 1st but got into a flow 2nd circuit, flew at one nicely and had a loose horse running around, didn't see a rival really, but looked impressive IMO

….i’d say faultless, certainly neat and tidy. Was a bit concerned with the loose horse for a few flights but it didn’t seem to impact him.

Jumping in the main was good as you would expect from Skelton. A couple of fences he did adjust to his left but that's nitpicking really. He was completely unchallenged though so will need to see what his jumping is like when under pressure but overall that was about as good as you could have hoped for from a chase debut.

All roads lead to the Arkle according to Dan. Cheltenham November meeting, followed by Sandown or Kempton - and that might be it until the Arkle.

I was very impressed. Had already backed him at early prices in the summer but topped up at 7/1.

Dan Skelton told Racing TV: "That was lovely.
He's quite light on his feet and it was just lovely to watch. Obviously, it's a little bit nerve-wracking when you run one over fences first time, but it's lovely to see that. The loose horse made us nervous for a fence or two, but Harry maneuvered out the way and got him on the outside, and that was pretty perfect.

"But he's just a really high-class horse and I felt he was a Grade One horse over hurdles; just the day he ran in a Grade One hurdle, he didn't quite stay. And I was never disappointed to not have run him in the Champion Hurdle, because over hurdles he just needed that little bit of extra distance. Unfortunately, there wasn't a two and a half at Cheltenham and, in hindsight, I'd have been better off waiting for Aintree, but we had a go at that Stayers', and it proved something to us that day that we never have to try again.

"So now we feel like we are a little bit more complete in our knowledge about him and hopefully he's got a big future at this game.

"He was jogging around a little [beforehand], he was excited to be on the grass, he hasn't run since March. His schooling had been good, but you then need to go and see them be good here and better again, and learn a few things. And, ultimately, he went around by himself and probably didn't learn much about having horses around him, but at the same time, you've got to be able to go his gallop to put him under pressure, and I think he's obviously pretty good.

"So, much stiffer tasks will lie ahead of him, but it's nice to be able to go around and just have things his own way, to build the confidence."

Paddy Power reacted by cutting Kabral Du Mathan to 6/1 (from 8s) for the Arkle next spring, so is that the way his trainer is thinking?

"Yeah, 100%. He wouldn't want really bad ground," said Skelton. "Obviously, Sinnatra debuted yesterday at Ffos Las, and he'd be well at home in really soft conditions, as you saw. So this horse we will keep to better conditions.

"As long as the ground has got some soft in the description, good to soft, he will go to the Paddy Power meeting for the Graded novice chase over two miles. We'll look at Henry VIII or Boxing Day at Kempton over two miles - one of those two I'd have thought.

"Then you might not see him to the Arkle. Just with this horse, I'm very conscious that I don't want to run him in bad ground. So, if I can get some experience before the New Year, it might feel like we've done the bit we need to do before reopening for the spring.

"He will improve a lot. I haven't galloped him at all, but then he never came under pressure today, so he probably needs to step forward for a next run, but I'm hoping to not have to do too much in the immediate future, and then I want to save as much as I can for the spring, because he does look a competitor [in the Arkle]."

Sinnatra given an RPR of 145 (7lb higher than hurdles rating of 138). Has assumed that the 2nd and 3rd have run 3lb and 4lb respectively below their hurdles mark. That results in a 26lb beating of the 2nd - 19lb for the weight given and 7lb for the 7.5 length beating. Official handicap mark was 141 - will see what he does on Tuesday.

Kabral Du Mathan has beaten Hold The Serve by 19 lengths off level weights. Hold The Serve was rated 130 by the handicapper and 131 by RPR over hurdles so assuming that he run to form (and he beat the 126 rated 3rd by 13 lengths) then KDM is at least 150 plus ease of victory. Given he had an official rating of 156 over hurdles (RPR 158) then as @Runragged says above he has simply beaten horses that he should have done and though the performance had a lot of swagger, he still needs to prove that he has the requisite 2m speed and his jumping up in class.

Completely irrelevant run beating horses a 156 rated hurdler should be beating. Jumped fine but then was nothing more than a schooling session. Should learn more next time.
I'd disagree on it being irrelevant. He showed he can jump a fence quickly and efficiently. We know he has the residual class given he's rated 156 over hurdles so he needed to show that he's suited to fences, which he did.

Cheltenham is the next race on the agenda, where he should face some decent opposition.

I will take an irrelevant 20 lengths victory on chasing debut at the price I got. Looks a good enough start to me. I'm not a stats man, they can be manipulated any way you like. I prefer my eyes.

Mmm, funny you mention it though Dan ? and the reasoning is somewhat weak.
Little lying hamster cheeks.

Just say you fucked up man and be done with it. Fast becoming the biggest billy bullshitter in racing. IMO.

And that's the third time I've quoted Bruce Lee on this forum.

I actually thought of you when he gave that interview earlier. Knew it'd get a reaction😁

Sinnatra off 145 could be interesting for a hcap at the festival with a couple of mid season non trying efforts thrown in …..not that Skelton would ever do that

Cant see the official handicapper letting him get away with 145...

Given KDM's run though then I reckon Skelton has already thought about how he will get a few lbs off Sinnatra 🤣
