The watering of the New Course followed by 12mm of rain must be a downer for small trainer Adam Nicol and Minella Study as he’s a good ground horse and any of the first three days would have been ideal. Soft ground has diminished my confidence. I think he has the class to cope with it so I’m not ready to throw in the towel, but I’ve had a saver this morning on Highland Crystal. I liked the way she battled on in soft ground last time and the hill should hold no fears.
At least Willie Mullins has been catered for and that’s obviously all that matters at Cheltenham nowadays, according to Willie anyway.
