Arkle 2019

I backed Defi after he won the Triumph for the Arkle, before he flopped that season.

I feel totally different now, I lean towards the point Ista brings up that pretty much all of the decent Triumph horses end up needing further...

That said, at 28/1 you can definitely take a chance... I am not on but can't knock it.

Yep. I did. and probably one reason why I've had another go.

Positives
He does seem to be written off/forgotten about after two runs in grade ones (aged 5) and badly placed IMO, but he obviously wasn't right. If you forget the last 12 months and imagine he'd just won the triumph and was going chasing then 28-1 looks good.
The trip thing will depend how quickly he jumps.
Hobbs can train arkle winners and even though they turn into stayers, he often goes here
can't think of another mcmanus owned horse going this way.
he'll be one of highest rated hurdlers going chasing
His cheltenham form is excellent 4/4
Price is ok for now

Negatives
His rating is wrong, like many 4yr olds (anyone know why this seems to happen, every season the triumph favourite seems to be higher rated than any of the other novice races)
The triumph he won doesn't look great form.
Barry might be riding him.
he might have just become a rubbish horse.

I seem to remember he was rubbish at jumping hurdles? -I definitely remember him running through a couple in some of his races through the season -

(if I get chance) on his chase debut I'll hover over the Arkle market and see how he's getting on - I think he's a bit risky because he'll need to prove to me he's going to be a good jumper (I certainly wouldn't want to assume that with him specifically)...

Of the positives, CHeltenham form of 4/4 is impressive regardless of what he's been beating, and although the form of that crop doesn't look very good, the second best did pass away so really the top two have never had chance to show what thy can do yet.

Barry can make the best horses look ropey jumping a fence or hurdle these days, pretty sure Hobbs is not a fan, so Johnson gets to ride him more often. Barry not positive enough, would never see geraghty give a ride like johnson gave Native river (just as an example)

I think it’s safe to say Vision Des Flos is a 2miler now, if he’s to go back over fences he has to come here

Absolutely, but What's the chances tizzard sees it the same though ?

Have you seen him ride Le Richebourgh or Ballyoisin this year ? Has won more champion chases and Arkles than anyone.

Those days are gone,
he's safety first these days,
have you seen him jump slowly on novices,
race wide of the field, or held up,
or stutter into last two fences or hurdles so he don't fall off, then run on after the last.
He's had too much pain and takes the easy route these days, but it's just my thoughts and a few others, so each to their own.
He was giving hells kitchen a nice ride today but it did look like a Range Rover v Mini Coopers.

Happy to agree to disagree :) he gave le prezien a peach in Grand annual too but got overshadowed by all the other crap in that race.

I'm probably too harsh with him to be fair, but it's the way I see it, so gotta take it into account

He also gave Buveur D'air a superb ride in the champion hurdle to get him up on the line.

Anyone rhink this lad dolciano dici may have been showing something at home to entitle him to come here. And we're just completely overlooking him due to his colours and hurdles debut. He's entitled to be 100/1 for the arkle on the form book so I might try adding him before just incase he hoses up.

**** 33s what a joke. They really don't give a price anything mullins.

Yep ... thought that but was waiting for a price.

This horse had a hugely different profile to any of the other runners he's had....

What if he's incredibly well supported today?

He's already miles shorter than he's entitled to be. Plus pp went shortest at 5/2 and haven't budged.

33s though. I was expecting atleast 66s.

I was thinking the same last night with it being a race Mullins send his good ones to and it’s his only runner. Disappointed with the Arkle price but took 5’s for today’s race last night.

Its a tough one. Wheres the money coming from, the yard, or Should he be 16s today and everyone thinks there being clever knowing his historic runners in the race? When his intended runners aren't ready yet.

We'll soon find out.

I know he's had his problems over the last season or so but Campeador interests me for this race.

Back in 2016 he was going to win the Fred Winter off 141 before a heavy fall at the last hurdle. He came back to the track in the December off a mark of 142 and had the race at his mercy before taking another heavy fall at the last and resulted in him missing the rest of the season.

The following season he took a race at Punchestown before falling again, this time in the Morgiana, and he hasn't been seen since finishing a distant third in the Ryanair hurdle last Christmas.

He has an Irish hurdles rating of 150 and this makes him one of the highest rated two milers to go chasing this season. He is definitely talented but also has head full of spanners so he might not take too fences at all......but if he does, he might just be a player in what looks like being an open renewal at this stage.

As an aside, he is owned by JP so he might just be given a gentle introduction, with an eye on some of the lucrative handicaps in the spring.

I've requested price for the Arkle and Any Race markets, with the any race market being my preferred bet at this stage.
