Punchestown Festival

It's easy to chastise yourself after the event Kev but we have to take positions based on what we think we know. That's the beauty of this forum, we debate and create some doubt about any certainties therefore preventing each other from some poor decisions. Onwards and upwards.

Punchestown has never been a good punting opportunity in my experience. The stable stars are all aimed and prepped for March and any appointments taken up afterwards are stabs in the dark with regards form. The Mullins & Elliott sideshow has further muddied the water this year I think.

Faugheens demolition job yesterday was worth the weeks demolition derby bouts.

I have always found Punchestown impossible but, and someone pointed this out in here this week, the Mullins/Elliott championship battle meant that several horses were running who would normally be in a field chewing grass at this time of year.
Lessons learnt....

After a poor Aintree (min) and being selective here I'm 22 pts up for punchestown thanks to black tears, faugheen, bravissimo, shady operator. (One poor selection jetz) and can't see any bets today. Could have been a lot better. with alboum photo / getabird yest 8/1/ and shady operator 15/2 all could have gone the other way. But iv enjoyed the challenging week of punting and trying to work out which races to avoid and go in on. Faugheen the highlight of the week. Un de sceaux the performance of the week. And footpad the one to really
look forward to next season, will be some spectacle If they decide to take on altior. Rather than take in the ryaniar

BDD beats Apples Jade again, AJ doesn’t seem to have the battle in her she did at the beginning of the season

Brilliant, best moment of the season for me.
Interesting Rich and Willie talking about chasing next season. would be very unusual for a 11yr old but he is lightly raced

If they are doing it the novice campaign won’t last too long.

Going for the Dawn Run double?

I was staggered to hear Ricci mention the JLT for Faugheen if going novice chasing?!

What on EARTH would be the point of going chasing with the aim of winning a JLT at his age.... when he's just won a stayers hurdle at Punchestwown

I don't think he'll be seen over a fence NUT it sas to be Gold Cup as a novice (via the King George like Thistlecrack tried) doesn't it!

Personally it was a great week with 2 winners and a fourth although Cadmium and Kemboy have been handed a good few extra pounds by the handicapper for their pains. I managed to get over for the Thursday and ticking the Punchestown winner box capped off a day to savour with the performances of Faugheen and Footpad. Interesting to note that, carrying 17lb less, Cadmium covered the course 3.4 seconds quicker than Footpad. Obviously, it doesn't put him up there with Footpad but it does indicate a quality performance as does the 13lb hike. Kemboy goes up 9lb to 156.

A festival to remember for your syndicate alright Archie, congrats I’m sure plenty of celebratory pints of Guinness were had!

Cadmium gets a helluva mention from Pricewise for the reasons you've mentioned.

One to be very excited about archie!

Kemboy hopefully can progress too and be a real player in some graded races.

Looking forward to watching these for you :)
