Day 1 - Champion Day

Best of luck, HF!

If Saint Calvados wins, then Kev is buying Australia :highly_amused:

Probably need a bit more strength in the pound for that Tim ... a global financial collapse.

Good luck again everybody. I love you all, in a way.

Welcome Bert and good luck

I'm genuinely quite nervous, would just love to get off to a good start. Getabird and Footpad going in would really set me up for the week

Nerves are normal, I am always nervous now

Nerves are part of it... only 4.5 hours time until the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when the tapes go up!!

I am happy & excited now but normally I know how this story will end :grumpy:

361 days is a long time too wait.

1.30 Supreme (Skybet money back free bet if loses) Slate House 20/1

Tizzards yard have absolutely turned a corner and this one should be freshened up and back down to the right trip. Has course form and that might being him into the frame

Also taken some loose change e/w on Us And Them 33/1 since Jo O'Brien knows how to prep one for a big meeting, with this one running well in winter ground all season and battles hard from the front. Can see him possibly hanging on for a place if he runs prominently, given what a stamina test this will be.

Getabird has the most ability by quite some way, but he has a major issue drifting right and that could get exposed today. If he is steered without issue however, he could win this comfortably. It's the first race of the festival- plenty more battles to be had across the week so if he wins he wins.

2.10 Arkle- I'm not hugely sold on the race and think the hype is unjustified. Footpad has run a bit like Un De Sceaux did in his novice chase season and he could skip clear if jumping as cleanly as he has done, getting the race won before stamina of Petit Mouchoir kicks in. Like any Arkle, its all on the jumping. PM should get closer with added fitness.

2.50- Case Tete 25/1- its an ultra competitive handicap and this is more a value angle for me. I like Poliglote-sired horses on testing ground and Case Tete is lightly raced and still has improvement to come as a 6 Y O. Stamina questions yes but I really liked the way this one finished LTO and perhaps the penny is now dropping as he matures. Closed on the leader rapidly at the finish LTO and I'm hoping for a good strong finish today.

3.30 Champion Hurdle- I will have a small bet on Faugheen and Yorkhill at the prices, but this is BD's to win and he gets his ground.

4.10 Mares- Been waiting to see Benie Des Dieux try hurdles for quite some time. Whether she can battle with the mighty Apples Jade up the hill is another story. Benie will have no issues with ground and I personally think AJ is even better on drier ground, so the rain makes this closer than I think it would have been.

4:50 Impulsive Star 20/1 - Really like this ones chances over 4m in soft ground. Will be on and off the bridle at times but if you ever get the chance to watch his run over hurdles behind Wholestone, he finishes like a train after rallying and 4m should suit.

5:30 IBIS DU RHEU 25/1 e/w -Course, ground and trip form. Pipe opener last time and surely this has been the aim all season. 4lb lower than when 3rd to Royal Vacation here, and looks set for a nice race.

Ruby said getabird trains at Mullins track and thats left handed and does not have a problem that he could see..

Like I say, he might hack up. All I have to go on is track evidence. If he wasn't so short I'd take the chance, but I'm playing the e/w game instead.

Not really much to say regarding today as done all of my talking in the build up to the festival on here, just want to wish everyone the best of luck and to have a great festival :)

Let's have it!!!

He might be slightly biased in that opinion? Rather see confirmation on the track.
