RSA Chase 2018

As highlighted before, if you went on trainer comments then Charli Parcs and Brain Power would be winning the champion hurdle and arkle. Footpad has improved massively for a fence but he was only just short of the very top level over hurdles. We're talking about a horse here who was smashed 36 lengths by Teacher's Pet and 52 lengths by Mad Brian. He has obviously improved greatly for a fence given his form this season, but i'm still not having that he's improved enough to beat the principles here

Iv no idea who's going on trainer comments. I can see in plain sight on his runs this season he has a cracking ew chance. And very much a chance of winning.

Hurdles form would mean nothing to me over fences on a big chaser.

PM beat footpad 3 times over hurdles.
Let's see what happens in the arkle.

Definitely don't take every trainers comments on board, but his NAP for the festival is a strong enough word. I would also have to like the horse myself, unfortunately until last night we didn't know which race Dounikos would run him and didn't want to tie up pts, as I have done this enough already, so I didn't back him until I came on here this morning and read the previews, as I was unable to watch any last night!

Horses can improve plenty for a fence, look at last year's winner Might Bite. But most, including Might Bite, show a decent level of form over hurdles. Dounikos didn't. I'd have Footpad to beat Petit Mouchoir in the arkle, but he didn't have that much to find against him from their hurdles form. Just because a horse is staying on over 2m 4 doesn't mean they'll be staying on over 3. Monalee and Invitation Only i would readily expect to finish ahead of Dounikos in the RSA - whether one of those goes is in question

Even if Dounikos improved 6lb for a step up in trip to 3m for the RSA he still wouldn't be within 4L of Presenting Percy. As Kevin Blake said ''He's a future Gold Cup winner''.

I'm on monalee at 14/1 we all know its extremely likely he goes here. (And IO JLT.)
They're the main 3 imo.
But I certainly see the case for
Dounikos and alboum photo being able to turn him over in the rsa.

According to the Horse Racing Ireland OR and the RPR figures Presenting Percy is 4L clear of anything that ran in the Flogas.

I was completely discounting him, not so much anymore. He's a stayer, which is what you need to be historically to win an RSA. I think on good ground he'll be outpaced by horses like Monalee, but if it comes up soft he might be able to grind it out up the hill

Makes no difference what so ever to me. He's dotted up in a handicap and ran in open company he was always going to get a big mark. In case he went for a handicap.

Look at his hurdles mark after the Pertemps and his run in a proper race in a grade 1 after it.

It should have been 7lb higher.

Ballyoptic, Bonbon Au Miel, Presenting Percy the 1-2-3?

Monalee my biggest winner in the race and happy enough with that position

I see that you haven't covered Presenting Percy for this race Scooby91. Did you miss the early prices .? I did too but got on at 10/1 in November.Your book looks good though.

Completely avoided him big fish. Good luck with him. If he won I am more than happy to hold my hands up. All I can do is put my money up and back my own judgement.

Interesting comments from Gordon Elliott at Athlone last night...

Gordon said that dounikos runs here and that he had an each way chance but was not sure if he was good enough. he really liked presenting percy.

Didn't he say the day before he was his NAP?

I hate preview season. Going to go into a cave for the next 5 days

He napped Presenting Percy for the RSA Chase at this one last night apparently

ELEGANT ESCAPE scrapped from the 4 miler. 100% goes to RSA.

As short as 8/1 and no bigger than 12/1.

Only going to get shorter now as others drop out of the RSA as we get closer.

Willl soon be game time
