National Hunt Chase (4 miler) 2018

No. I'm saying he had a fit because he was totally exhausted because it's a gruelling race.

It's more often than not run at a steady gallop, for obvious reasons, and edwulf looked like he was more than comfortable until in between the last two, where he had his issue.

Agree to disagree mate. I think you want a hardened dour stayer myself.

No doubt you got to stay, I don't think we're disagreeing really. And neither of us know the exact reason why edwulf collapsed. But I did watch the race again a few times recently as i'm very interested in him for the Gold cup and wanted to see how he was travelling before he did his thing, and I think he looked the likely winner (hard to be sure when what happened to him started affecting him before he collapsed, he could have been feeling ropey from three out or earlier)
But in this race the amatuers tend to go a shade slower, especially on novices running over extreme trips. I suppose occasionally one might go off like a hare, but the better amatuers tend to go a sensible gallop. The RSA can tend to be much more gruelling as they certainly can go quick sometimes.
The national used to be won quite regularly by 2.5 mile chasers as the fences were tougher and they went a slower gallop, allowing horses with a bit of speed to do well.

Anyone got any idea of the field for this or confirmed runners.

Sizing Tennessee is a possible for this if EE goes RSA .

Impulsive Star - "nicely" freshened up

Indy Five
Shades of Midnight

but they're not of any interest

I remember Impulsive star went off favourite for this last year but didn't run any kind of race. Not done much to enhance his credentials in his 3 runs this season.

but tempting at 33-1 if targetted at this

Moulin a Vent fits all the big trends, and its his only entry. Anyone know if he's going elsewhere (Irish Nash??).

I've backed Moulin a Vent @25s with Hills NRI as he's not going anywhere else at the festival. Im hoping EE makes it but I've got a nagging feeling Tizzard is gonna have another one of his moments:grumpy:

Mac, it was the Pertemps Impulsive Star was backed off the boards last year and as you say ran poorly

Whats the chances of Mall Dini coming here now if the wet weather persists?

All gone quiet on Impsulsive Star actually hasn't it Ista... have you heard anything on the old grape vine?

If the market is any guide it is looking increasingly likely that Ms Parfois will run. Presumably, persuaded by the chances of soft ground. I backed her ages ago at 20/1 NRNB and although that might beat SP, 33/1 has been freely available. Jumps well, has a bit of course form and might well improve for the step up in trip. She has her chance in an open race.

Has any horse won this with just the one chase start i.e. No Comment?

Folski,
All the key trends gave us
Elegant Escape
Jury Duty
Monbeg Notorious
Mossback
Moulin a Vent
Keeper Hill

Obviously we have a few non runners in that list

This makes me happy having backed Mossback (unlikely runner), moulin a vent (only target) and keeper hill (most likely target)

With Dounikos likely going RSA 4 of the first 5 in the betting are now unlikely to come here, must be more value to be had

Jury duty mossback and rathvinden still the ones to beat for me.

Sizing Tennessee is an e/w price. If Elegant Escape is RSA bound then he will definitely be running in this.
