Would it put you off Morning Assembly knowing he has a Fat Jockey?

Haha. Not at all, I looked at his record previously after his 1st run. he's experienced. If the horse is good enough, wouldn't be a problem.

Not many horses with a current OR of 149, grade 1 winner and some cracking festival form. Go for the fox hunters. And at a price of 20/1 for good measure.

So we've entered the final fortnight before decisions are due. I've just been back through the thread and some of those with the most support currently include:

Triumph - Stormy Ireland
County - Moon Racer (I might need some convincing on this one)
Bartlett - Cracking Smart and Santini
Gold Cup - Might Bite
Foxhunter - plenty of opinion both for and against Burning Ambition, although not much of a consensus on who would be best to take him on with.
Martin Pipe - This will probably be a race I avoid as it's nigh on impossible to know what might turn up (albeit this might change when the weights are out later this week)
Grand Annual - Theinval

This is by no means the final shortlist, merely a quick summary of those horses who have already been given multiple shout-outs.

I'd welcome people's thoughts either for/against anything already mentioned, or to introduce new suggestions.

Gold Cup - Sizing John
Triumph - Mr Adjudicator
Bartlett - Paisley Park

Little bit of thinking on the Gold Cup.... Sizing John sets the standard...STILL and I know people are saying/have said (me included) that it looks a better race this year... however, have we actually had a piece of form good enough since the Gold Cup, from any horse, worthy of winning the Gold Cup?

Might Bite's King George was poor visually (perhaps), poor time overall (fact) and poor sectionally (fact)... I love Might Bite...but I can't use the King George as strong form.... so has any horse done anything to PROVE they are better than Sizing John? Looking at the prices you'd think Might Bite had...and he hasn't.

Native River is shorter in places? WHAT?! Since Sizing John BEAT Native River, Native River ahs run once, and won nicely... but that is a far cry from Cheltenham winning form. Of course he is expected to come on for the run, and he might well do that.....

Road To Respect? Done nothing wrong...but his wins aren't standout on the ratings.... none of his wins would have won the Gold Cuo... the whole angle with RTR is that he is still progressing. Again, he might be....

To sum up...... Sizing John is my hat in the ring for one of the selections

IMO Sizing John is comfortably the best bet in the race. 7/1 will do nicely.

Apples Shakira
Cracking Smart
Burning Ambition
Theinval

That’ll be my four nominations for this

My nods would be for:
Stormy Ireland
Cracking Smart
Road To Respect
Wonderful Charm

My picks are... Apples Shakira , Blow by Blow .runs? If not Cracking Smart, Our Duke , Burning Ambition. Good luck to all.

I've no idea about the hc'p races yet. But as Joseph O'Brien said recently that a horse has to be about10lb clear of it's mark to have a live chance of winning a competitive race where more than half the field are ahead of their OR.. what separates the herd is those who have their optimum and proven race conditions. Course /Distance /Going. Add to that promising , progressive and potential. Put all of the pieces of that puzzle together and 20+ runners can be whittled down to the best chance..in theory!

Sounds simple... :very_drunk:

Finally got a couple of hours to myself so i can give some input to the yankees.

My thoughts are:

Triumph- Stormy Ireland
County- Ivanovich Gorbatov
AB- Cracking Smart(If Next Destination goes to Ballymore)
Gold- Killultugh Vic
Foxhunters- Burning Ambition(Obviously)
Martin Pipe- Project Bluebook
Grand Annual- Theinval or Vaniteux

Despite making my case for Sizing John - Killultagh Vic is another I'd really like in the Gold Cup...

Two goes at 3m .... beat Thistlecrack over hurdles and fell when on the bridle approaching the last.

Not conclusive, as THistlecrack was improved the next season - but he did win the STayers and a King George so is clearly of a high level of ability.

And falling.... doesn't proive he'd have won either... (obviously)..... however.... That'd be a 3m win over a proven top class animal, and a fall when "looking like" the trip had allowed to to also show a very high level of form.

Mullins said the thing he'd be LEAST concerned about is stamina (although deeper delving in to the qwuote mentions it being based on the breeding)

But he's unexposed at the trip and the little evidence we have stacks up nicely!

What a fairytale story that would be, along with Cue Card winning the Ryanair & MTOY winning the Champion Hurdle, it would leave my balance low but that would make my festival if all 3 won their respective races.

I am on KV already, and do feel he has a fair chance, I remember before he got injured he was favourite for the JLT or RSA that season, can't remember which one exactly.

JLT. Was a big ante post blow for me so I remmeber it well. Had 14/1 and was convinced I'd got the winner.

I bet it was mate! I only had him in one small AP bet, so couldn't recall which race it was, but he looked an absolute star in the making then.

I take it as a positive for him to be honest. Which is almost certain;y a case of "rose-tinted glasses".... but for me, he's beaten Thistlecrack over 3m as a hurdler.... would have won a JLT and would have won an Irish Gold Cup.

The price he is now is short enough for 2 WOULD HAVE's but I am a believer.

The one big plus for KV for me is you know he is going to improve after only 3 chases.

He’ll have my money for better or worse for the fellow backers but I can’t see past him or Might Bite

KV would be one of the biggest trend busters in festival history should he win the Gold Cup, but he’s a horse I’ve always liked and does still offer a degree of value
