JLT Novices 2018

Terrefort

He had shown me absolutely nothing before Huntington therefore it was quite a surprise the way he won and when he arrived at Seven Barrows if you’d have said to me he’d be contesting a Grade 1, let alone winning one, I’d be sending you to a psychiatrist! He’s been put up a stone so is now the highest rated off 151, which I suppose means he should win it but we don’t have many places to go so this is definitely a face finding mission. I have to admit I’ll be absolutely staggered if he’s good enough to win this, certainly on what I’ve seen at home anyway. We can always go back over hurdles if we need to.

Already got the Flogas eventualities covered bar anything silly.

Sounds like Henderson and the handicapper are going to disagree on Terrefort haha

Phil Smith could be "dead meat" :highly_amused:

I don't think we saw the JLT winner today. For me that was at best a bunch of Grade 2 horses in a Grade 1 race.

Hopefully, we will get something a good deal better tomorrow.

I've just added Terrefort here at 20/1 e/w NRNB

4 of the last 5 winners have gone on to race in the JLT at Chelt, Top Notch and Bristol De Mai the most recent two for the same owners who both placed behind good horses at the festival

As fav, hopefully Terrefort wins tomorrow and has a better chance than 20/1 in the JLT.

(I do already have Kalondra backed at 33/1 for the JLT)

A case could probably be made for Cyrname 25/1 NRNB and West Approach 33/1 NRNB - I'd hazard a guess to say any performance that see's any of them drifting in the betting would result in them not running at all here but I don't think West Approach is good enough and I am a little bit tempted to cover Cyrname actually. He beat Shantou Rock(7L) further than Sceau Royal(2L) managed over 2m so could go Arkle but an impressive win here and he has an each way chance?

No Comment the 5th runner but not entered for this race.

Going to have Cyrname as well.

No doubt at all for me that the Flogas is stronger than the Scilly Isles - Happy to have taken both yesterday for them to finish like they did but I don't think either will be my selection for the JLT

You called it well kev on the Scilly isles no doubt.

It's a 100% fact that the flogas is in a completely different league. No idea who wins it, I'd shade Sutton place but theres some top quality horses in there going to get beaten. And can very quickly become massively over priced for chelt.

What a cracking race the Flogas was!

Very very happy with Al Boum Photo there, and I still think Monalee should go here.... but that looked an excellent race.... he found quite well so maybe RSA is more obvious...

Invitation Only I'd step up.... :highly_amused:

What a race happy with all of them bar Sutton place who unfortunately I assume isn't right. Dounikos ran a cracker too who I don't have covered for anything.

Some big decisions to be made for everyone after that, who goes JLT and who goes RSA? Tremendous race

Still no nearer singling out a horse for this race.

Sutton Place was disappointing, hopefully nothing wrong with him, maybe the ground was the issue, they always said he wanted better ground.

I think Monalee v Al Boum Photo in the RSA and Invitation Only for the JLT and think the winner for both races will probably come from that race today!

Looked a genuinely top class race.

Lovely performance from Monalee there. I think his jumping would be best suited for this race, and you know he will battle up the hill.

Not sure how Mullins will split up AbP and IO after that. Thought AbP's jumping suffered a bit at that pace which would incline me to go RSA but then it didn't hinder him being right there at the end. And I think IO would benefit for the extra difference.

Bit disappointed with Al Boum Photo. I think he should been further in front of the likes of Dounikos.

I was worried about the trip for Cheltenham but the ground should have compensated today. His jumping had looked good before but today it looked very hard work. Same jock as last time so hard to lay the blame in that direction.

Why did he drift to as big as 12/1 from early 4/1?

I have agreed with you about Monalee and taken the 14/1. Quicker ground shouldn't be an issue and he will not be meeting Presenting Percy.

I thought he ran a very good race personally in what as an extremely Good race. Dounikos is a nice horse look through his form. There will be plenty of graded winners in there

He would have beaten Dounikos comfortably last time so logic would suggest he hasn't even reproduced that level of form.

Looks like that money is only going one way as post race comments suggest RSA. The 14/1 carrot did look too big. Still he did lead over the longer trip at both Cheltenham and Punchestown and get beat so perhaps he isn't quite the stayer they think he is?

Henry de bromhead commented that they got Noel fehily to ride monalee today because they couldn't get Davy Russell to commit to riding the horse at Cheltenham
Suggests monalee is going RSA route as Russell will be on presenting Percy
Looking at the JLT Russell has no obvious mount safely presuming PM goes Arkle
