Cheltenham Bumper 2018

Downtown getaway up for sale at the weekend. Be interesting to see who buys him although if he was that good, I'm sure Willie would have been on the phone privately.

Very interesting. Not one I've got covered at all... just incase Gigginstown get him snaffled up and because it was under my radar. Is anyone expecting that race to start producing winners? A lot of talked up and fancied runners before but I like to be cautious as it isn't in the TV channels interest to talk there races down....

Downtown Getaway fetched £350k. Goes to Henderson.

Rapids escape franking thehollowgraphic form once again. Could be a dangerous game thinking mullins has better at home.
At half way I was thinking this one first cut might be a machine lol.

Think I mentioned on here last year that i have a system i use for the bumper. The main aspect of the system looks at when the horse made his bumper debut, the theory being that if they made their debut before the Galway festival and connections resist the temptation of going over hurdles then they must think he or she has a very good chance of winning the Bumper at the festival. The system has been great over the years and incorporates a few other bits as well. Hollowgraphic will be a qualifier on the system and as such Ive added him at 12/1 2pt win and hopefully he gets to the Festival.

In years gone by there are usually 2-5 qualifiers, recent successes:
2017 Fayonagh 7/1 sp (debut May2016)
2015 Moon Racer 9/2 sp (debut April 2014)
2014 Silver Concorde 16/1 sp (debut Jan 2012)

There have been quite a few placed horses over the years at decent prices also, from the top of my head i think Yanworth was a qualifier at a big price.

Also just for info purposes Stay Humble who has quite a reputation at Willies is ready to run and should be out over xmas.

Thanks Billymag - I love theories like this.
There is certainly a great deal of logic to this and if it works... why not?!

Happy to say that I've covered Hollowgraphic @ 20's & Stay Humble @ 33's

There would be no better Christmas present for me than Stay Humble coming out and winning well and becoming short priced fav for the Bumper.

On your system - do you back all of the qualifiers each time? and do you back them ante post or at SP?

I back them all antepost if connections state that they are intended runners and I think the price will shorten:
"He'll do. A good performance from a good horse. I'd imagine he'll be one for the bumper at the Cheltenham Festival - Willie Mullins, trainer of \Hollowgraphic"

So felt its was worth it on this occasion. But any of the qualifiers that I havent backed I back on the day each way, quite a few firms offer 4 places on the day.

Horses to qualify have to of won 50% of there races and earned a form book comment to show that they have the class to win the champion bumper ie easily, comfortably, impressive. Ill post the qualifiers as they appear.

He isn't entered up anywhere. Down royal on st Stephens day was the race everyone was hoping for.

Sutton place however was schooled over fences at navan on Sunday.

Thanks billy, that'll be interesting to see.

More strategic than my effort in the bumpers over the years.... in fact I've just had a look through and since I started in 2011 I have never had the winner of the bumper!
Best effort was 29/1 Battleford win only who got beaten by Ballyandy in a photo!

Interested to see how Bullionaire gets on at Ascot tomorrow- think this race has been the plan for a while & will determine if they stick to bumpers this season - Western Ryder won it last year.

He's a decent horse and could be a CB contender. 33's seems big.

Have they mentioned the champion bumper? Harry fry is more of an Aintree man from previous years. And would work out much bigger price backing him today and rolling on to the CB if that became a clear target.

I haven't heard or read anything that this is his target, but to wrap him up and keep under these rules until December is a big sign for me.

Wasn't a plan though, he hasnt been right and only just come to hand recently. He was going hurdling.
This is all going by Harry fry himself.

Ah ok, I never knew this. Couldn't find any quotes online about the horse's well-being.

Can’t leave didtheyleaveuoutto out of my cheltenham book after that performance. I had Crooks peak about 8 lengths ahead of herecomestheboom on collateral form and he’s hammered that one. It was more the potential though, seems that all ground will come alike and he travelled all over Bullionaire, who is a smart horse himself. Bullionaire pulled hard and he’ll come on for that first run back but you’d reckon didtheyleaveuoutto is open to just as much improvement going forward

Agreed I thought that was a superb performance.

Serious performance backed him after the race. It is the target confirmed on itv racing FB live. They could go for a listed race in January but Nick gifford says Barry was delighted and They would be happy to go straight to the festival.

Be more than happy if he goes straight there. Hopefully Stay Humble comes out and impresses, I’ll be done for this race then (don’t think I’ve ever nabbed the winner of it) with Hollowgraphic, didtheyleaveuoutto, crooks peak, downtown getaway and stay humble
