Neptune Novices Hurdle 2017

Yeh he said Mares Novice would suit most...

Mullins said: "The advantage she has is that she's a second-season novice in against real novices. She ran last year but didn't win and we just ran her in big races because she started off so late in the season.

"We took a chance that if she won one, all well and good, but if she didn't she'd have all the experience for this year. I think that's paying off for her, apart from the fact that she's a good filly anyway. The conditions of the race suited her here. She did it well.

"We have to try and pick the right race for her at Cheltenham now. The mares' novice would look the obvious one, but that's only two and a quarter miles.

"She might be better off running in maybe the Neptune or the Mares' Hurdle, something a bit longer. We'll see what turns up in the mares' novice.

"Two-and-a-quarter around Cheltenham would be a good gallop, though, and it's more than likely the one. We'll see as we have a few nice mares for that race.

"We won't have to make up our mind for a while and we'll see how she comes out of that."

I mean... Ricci Roulette / Mullins Bingo is in full flight, when straight after Ricci is talking Albert Bartlett...

it's more than likely the one. We'll see as we have a few nice mares for that race.

I think that means Ruby decides. Owners (and maybe particularly Ricci) want him on their horses.

Does anyone know Peregrine Run's festival target and if he goes please? I know Peter Fahey was toying between AB and Neptune but haven't heard anything since.

His form from Cheltenham where he beat Wholestone and West Approach keeps getting better and better and at 33s with Betfair, he's surely been overlooked/overpriced?

LTO possible had something to do with it where I thought he travelled and jumped well for a long way on soft ground he notoriously hates before not going on with Willoughby Court (who was an impressive winner on the day at Warwick).

Tempted to wait for NRNB because if it goes soft I imagine he wouldn't run but 33s seems huge to me and I'd be prepared to take the risk?

I'm hoping AB, but that is pocket talking. The last I heard - that was the aim, but it could well be ground dependent and this was by no means 100% confirmed.

I am surprised that "William Henry" is still available at 33's. I thought that he looked very good behind Wholestone (who just keeps getting better and better) and given that this was his first attempt at the trip - I think that he could be very useful on better ground.

I was really happy that I snapped up some 33's before the weekend, but somewhat confused that you can still get that price...! Am I missing something??

I thought they said they might swerve Cheltenham with PR, or go down the handicap route. I'll see if I can find a quote.

Wonder if he is priced up in the "any race" market? I backed for the AB ... tempted by 33/1 as a saver but I will check when I get home.

Leman the trial on Saturday was a Neptune trial over 2m 4f.. He's still 20/1 for the Neptune which is the race I have backed him for.

Sorry Cwright, my post was in two parts. (Should have been clearer :))
The first bit was about Peregrine Run, the 2nd about William Henry

I'm on WH for the Neptune at 33's, but Slybet are still 33's after that performance.

I really liked the performance of William Henry on Saturday. He jumped nicely and quickly and I agree that better ground will see an even better horse. As for the price, I think it's amixture of two things. One he has gone a little under the radar, which is a little surprising from apowerful stable. I think the other reason is its target, I would like to see it head down the Supreme route. I think it has the pace to cope with that race and it certainly has the jumping ability . I also think the Neptune looks really strong at the minute , where the Supreme looks a little more open at present.
I want to go in now whilst the price is there, but I'm just not sure what route they will go down.

I hope Neon Wolf turns up in this... I think he should be fav. I think Finian's Oscar is fav because of Yorkhill's path to the festival last season more than his performance.

Neon Wolf has been one of the most impressive horses this season (especially the way he hurdles) and he is more likely to step up to this distance unless it is soft ground.

6/1 NRNB with WH is very fair I think! I think he'd be fav when declared!

Monalee won well today which adds substance to invitation onlys past run. Just have to hope he goes the AB and doesn't decide to tackle this race. He looked to appreciate the step up anyway so fingers crossed

You'd maybe fancy IO to reverse the Monalee form on the better ground?

Possibly Kev yeah... i just think the race with DD before Christmas is possibly turning out to be the strongest irish novice form on offer. It wasnt the best of runs by IO at the time, but if he has his reasons (e.g. ground) and DD is as ruthless as is being made out.. then maybe those Neptune tickets are still looking strong

bay of freedom would be the man to find out for us ...

Sorry for being so late guys - working hard this week for once! Peter and i had a long chat about this and he's planning to put him in both 2m 5f handicaps as well (Coral Cup and the Martin Pipe). Peter was disappointed after Warwick but I reminded him that the ground can get really 'gluey' there and Peregrine Run is a good ground horse. He stays the trip and his jumping is really good but he flattened the last two flights like a really tired horse. I think the Neptune is the right race and so does Roger Loughran; although I teased him in the bar last week that the Conditional Jockey's race (or, as he called it, the 'boys' race) was the obvious choice. On good ground, he would have , at least, a decent e/w chance in the Neptune and, I suspect, that's the way Peter is leaning although I wouldn't rule out the handicaps just yet. I may be over in a couple of weeks so should have something more definitive then

Thanks for that bay of freedom

A horse definitely on my radar for Cheltenham. Has that all important course form.
