2016 Triumph Hurdle

Suppose the backing of AP has given confidence again in some punters, however i'd want to see the ground good on the day before i went in again, price may have gone by then though

My weekend gets underway on Voix Du Reve, in the juvenile hurdle at Fairyhouse, and hopefully it’ll be a winning start.

He came from France with a good reputation and the potential to develop into a Triumph Hurdle horse, having won his last two races there.

I suppose he has to win today to justify a place at Cheltenham but, with four-year-olds, you don’t really know what you have until you bring them to the track.

That said, he brings plenty of experience from his native country, and hopefully will get his career of to a winning start for us.

Zubayr and Khezerabad entered in the Adonis on Saturday. Could we finally see a stand out Triumph contender?

Both bred by aga khan - I think there is a stat that ties in with this.

on the basis the less they say they more they fancy it this has to ne Nicholls best one :devilish:

Zubayr
He is another nice four-year-old and I'm going to run him in the Adonis on Saturday to see where we are.

and you Mayo.

He said: "He was very good. I hoped for a performance like that but you just don't know. He's very like Zarkandar in that he's no morning glory and he's taken a while to come to himself. He can only improve physically and mentally.

"He stays very well and I'm glad they went a good gallop. He's a proper horse. I was thinking whatever won today would be favourite for the Triumph and that puts him right up there."

:)

Hope you filled wheelbarrows lads

I'd penciled in Gibralfaro as EW in the Triumph and suppose hes gone out a bit now after that run, dissapointing but worth staying with?

I really wouldn't,
Alan King today: "He's not good enough, it's as simple as that and I'm not terribly surprised. I've been saying all the way through that I can't believe this horse is a 151 horse.

"The handicapper has got totally carried away with the Sandown form [Contenders Hurdle] which I think was a shocking race. I know Rayvin Black has come out and won but Peace And Co couldn't breathe and the fourth was too close and we've gone up 9lb stood in our box.

"Unless something comes to light I don't think he's a Triumph horse and we have to find an alternative."

New favourite by the weekend ?

Zubayr looks a proper racehorse
The stylish victory of Zubayr on his debut for us in the Adonis Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday sparked immediate comparisons with our great old campaigner Zarkandar who also won this race in 2011 on his way to success in the Triumph Hurdle and many more big prizes.

I hope they are right. Going into the race I couldn't split Zubayr and my other debutante Pilansberg on their homework. Yet Pilansberg, who was smart on the flat in France, finished in the rear to my surprise while the inexperienced Zubayr jumped really well and came through with a steady run to put his seal on the race at the final flight.

There has to be bags of improvement in the winner who was racing for only the third time in his life. He looks like a proper racehorse. He has turned inside out in the past three weeks and only schooled on grass for the first time on Friday. Nick Scholfield said that despite being a bit green Zubayr took off when he asked him go after the leaders turning into the straight and felt he had plenty in hand in the closing stages.
I'd say he can only get better between now and the Triumph. Pilansberg is still a colt after 10 races on the flat last summer. We are going to geld him, give him a nice break and bring him back next season.

I was thrilled with the run of Marracudja who jumped brilliantly in the lead in the Dovecote Hurdle before being caught by the highly rated Winter Escape on the flat. It was a great performance by Marracudja who gave 3 lbs to the winner and will make an awesome chaser next season. He will by-pass Cheltenham and go straight to Liverpool where the flat track and likely drier ground will suit him well.

Harry bullish too

A triumph for Zubayr and team

A month ago if a man had wandered into the yard and told us Zubayr was going to win the Adonis and then be second favourite for the triumph hurdle Paul would have probably asked me to escort the deluded and clearly half cut man back to the pub. We would have laughed about it and carried on with our day. Such is the skill of my boss though, Zubayr did exactly that.

When Zubayr arrived in high summer after being victim of a bidding war that will go to the grave with Tom Malone, we all fell in love with him (Zubayr that is). A stunning horse physically, who couldn't have moved better if he had wings strapped to his perfectly formed back. With horses however, you soon learn that things aren't always simple.

Having conned Zubayr into taking a substance that would make him sleepy for a few hours, we unkindly whipped his manhood out and went about making him into the juvenile hurdler we dreamt he would be.

Months later we have now seen what he is capable of, but the road has been anything but smooth. He always had the right attitude towards his training but physical problems held him back time after time, in fact there have been a number of occasions we could have drawn stumps with him this season. He always just showed Paul enough though, and after a gallop and great schooling session in the week Paul went for it and declared him at Kempton.

Zubayr is a success story for patience and for the talented people involved with him. From Jane Farwell who rides him everyday at home, Clifford who has watched over all his day to day routines and Nick Scholfield for teaching him to jump so well. Everyone has played a big part in that win on Saturday and I can't wait to see him in the Triumph.

The people who I was most thrilled for on Saturday though was Mr and Mrs Vogt, the owners of Zubayr. You always look back and say what a good buy a horse was when they win, but it was a brave purchase from the Vogt's and I'm so so thrilled to see them have a potentially top class horse, they are wonderfully enthusiastic and it's a pleasure to see them having success.

who dares wins was under a penalty on trials day and will get a better ride under hutch. backed.

Every preview evening is saying that this Ivanovic Gorbatov is the worst favourite of the week, someone I know has contacts in Ireland and one of them visited O'Briens yard about 10 days ago and reckons this thing is a certainty.
They say the ground was horrible Leopardstown last time and he could jump out of it (sticky, gluey apparently), better ground and a quicker pace will be perfect for the horse.
Wouldn't rush to back it now but with every pundit saying he can't win and tipping anything and everything against it will only force his price out, but whatever you're reading from the previews connections think this is a proper horse and there would have to be something very special to beat him come the Triumph....

Hope you're right, Ista.

Was a bit short for my pockets, so chucked him in a double with the Broncos for the Superbowl.

Nothing lifechanging, but will pay for the villa if he comes in :)

I think IG is ground dependent but could be class. Talk of a stone bruise before last run on one of the previews.
