World Hurdle Thread 2015

Fry resigned to Fehily Ruby loss

Trainer Harry Fry admits there is "every possibility" Rock On Ruby will require a new rider in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham on March 12.

Noel Fehily has been ever present in the saddle since Rock On Ruby's triumph in the 2012 Champion Hurdle when trained by Paul Nicholls, a sequence of 14 consecutive races.

But with Fehily retained by Potensis Bloodstock, part-owners of leading World Hurdle candidate Zarkandar, that run looks set to come to an end.

Fry, however, is in no rush to book a potential replacement.

The Dorset handler said: "Noel is retained to ride Zarkandar and there is every possibility that he won't be available, but we will cross that bridge when we know the final decision. I've had a few text messages about it.

"We've got two weeks to go. The horses and jockeys have got to get there first and the plans are fluid.

"We can't confirm either way who'll end up riding him at the moment."

Has Daryl Jacob got a ride in this, I could imagine Paul nicholls face if ROR nutted his two with Dazzler on board

If we get the rain that is in the ten day long range forecast then Zarkander will be very tough to beat.

Reve De Sivola his or Dickies ride ?

Spot on OV. Looks like DJ's ride.

Daryl Jacob believes Reve De Sivola has more than an outsider's chance in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.
The jump jockey feels bookmakers are underestimating the triple Long Walk Hurdle winner by quoting him at a top-priced 25-1 for the three-mile championship at Cheltenham on 12 March.

The Nick Williams-trained 10-year-old has finished fourth and eighth of the last two runnings of the World Hurdle and ran a fine race when only going down by a neck, conceding 4lb, to Saphir De Rheu in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham last month.

"I'm looking forward to him. I can't believe he's a 25-1 chance," Jacob told At The Races.

"I know people say he hasn't got the best course record round Cheltenham, but you can't crab his form the last time when he was wrong at the weights with Saphir De Rheu and he's only gone down by a neck. That's a very good race and good form.

"He's more like a fourth or fifth favourite and that's how I'll be going there with that sort of confidence in him."

Is Whisper going to wait for Aintree ?

The way the cookies are crumbling atm i don't think Willie Mullins will have much choice but to run AP here.

More of that out of the world hurdle, What's left to beat? A Destrival a NR in the mares and with Annie going for the WH that would make Glens Melody a good thing-ish.

The difference in prize money is massive between the mares and WH and that must surely be a huge consideration.

I've had a cheeky Score on AP @ 24/1 on the Betfair exchange plus a decent ew on Glens M. Could be the easiest monkey i've ever won.

Can still get 20's on AP - Lump on:encouragement:

Noel sounds gutted

I will be riding Zarkandar," he said. "I've a contract with the owners. It's something I was hoping wouldn't happen, but they are going to clash and I'm going to have to ride Zarkandar because of my commitments to the owners.

"It's not a bad dilemma - they're both very good horses and I think Zarkandar's got a very good chance. Hopefully he can win.

"It's something I haven't been looking forward to because I absolutely love Rock On Ruby. He's a star of a horse and has done wonders for my career. I'd love to be riding him again and I think he's going to Cheltenham in the form of his life. He has a massive chance, but Zarkandar also has a massive chance."

2012 Triumph Hurdle winner Zarkandar was fourth in the World Hurdle last year and may have won the Long Walk had Twiston-Davies delayed his challenge against Reve De Sivola.

"I think Zarkandar's run in it last year was very good," added Fehily, who was speaking to Betfred TV. "He finished fourth, but was probably out of form. He's definitely looked a better horse this year.

"I think there'll be enough pace on so I can follow for as long as I have to and dare. At some stage you have to give him a kick in the belly and hope he does it, but it did look like he pulled up at Ascot and hopefully he won't be doing that at Cheltenham."

Is MCoy confirmed now ? Rebecca Curtis was still running at fishers x last I heard

Graham Wylie

BRIAR HILL

(World Hurdle, Thursday March 12, 16-1)

“He had a crashing fall at Cheltenham last year and we’ve spent all year nursing him back into contention.

“He came eighth at Christmas, but that was just a little run around the back to get him back into the swing of racing really. David Casey actually said he thought he was going to win at the third last, but he clipped the second last and emptied, but that’s because he wasn’t fit enough.

“He came fourth after that and Ruby said he was getting there, and then last time out he was primed, he came to win the race, but he fell at the last. He’s fine, but it’s what’s in his head now that is the question.”

Notice that Noel left Monksland out of his Cheltenham candidates in the above. Hopefully slipped his mind..
— Ross Moynihan (@rossmoyno7) February 28, 2015

Speaking following the win of his Heck Thomas at Leopardstown today, trainer Noel Meade gave an update on his Cheltenham team.

The seven times Champion Trainer stated "I think I have them in great form. We're very happy with them and they seem to be bouncing and in good shape.

"We'll do the real serious bits of work next week then we'll pull the hammer back on the gun and see what happens.

"I'll probably have six or seven going. There is Road To Riches, Apache Stronghold, Very Wood, Wounded Warrior, Ned Buntline and Snow Falcon.

"Ipsos Du Berlais will also run in the cross country while Waxies Dargle and Couleur France could go."

Looks like he's out of the WH then? He surley must have forgotten to mention him.

This is why these preview evenings can tie people in knots. I read one where Paul Carberry put up Rich Coast (County) as his charity bet (loves Apache S so much didn't want to pick him) and he isn't mentioned either.

I thought McCoy on ROR was an absolute shoe in. Can't believe this will run and second that JP would make McCoy ride him on his last World Hurdle ride having never won the race. A lot of water to go under the bridge yet though.

I posted on the JLT thread a couple of weeks back that I couldn't believe Gitane Du Berlais was running because she would take Vautour on up front and all of a sudden she is running in France today.

Cole Harden

"Cole Harden had a wind operation after the Cleeve and has come out of it fine," Greatrex said on Friday.

"His last run was obviously a bit below what I was expecting but we had a reason and have rectified that.

"He has had two racecourse gallops and was brilliant in his last school this morning. He has not missed a day in the build-up and he looks incredible."

Cole Harden was seventh behind unbeaten Stan James Champion Hurdle favourite Faugheen in the Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle at the festival 12 months ago and Greatrex added: "He is not far off the best I have ever had him and I am expecting a big run.

"The better the ground, the better he will run and, in a wide open race, I think he has got a great each-way chance."
