Changed my mind, let's do your favourite Cheltenham Festival horse of the decade.

Interpret it how you will, one performance, longevity etc

From 2010 onwards...
 
10 runs.
9 wins
5 grade 2 mares hurdle victories at the festival
4 grade 1 world series hurdle victories at the punchestown festival

Didn't bother messing in other races, went to Cheltenham for first run each year.
Then beat the boys and Cheltenham world hurdle placed horses easily at Punchestown.

Only defeat (I had 28 points on her) was when Ruby rode a dozy race in her last appearance.

No Brainer.

QUEVEGA - horse of the decade.
If she had ran in more races (especially some of the early season softer graded races) she'd have racked up as many grade 1's as The Fly.

No Brainer.

Tiger Roll maybe comes close.
 
having been pretty much everyday for the past 10 years, can safely say Sprinter regaining his crown and last years Thursday will always live long in the memory.
so voted Sprinter :)
 
Tiger Roll. To win a Triumph, 4-miler and 2 cross country chases is a truly remarkable, and hopefully he's not done yet. His will to win has endeared him to the nation, I love him.
 
Tiger Roll what he has done is nothing short of exceptional.
 
Is this a Cheltenham festival poll Kev or do we include Aintree and Punchestown ?
If solely Cheltenham has to be Altior with 4 wins all G1 and 2 championships.
Tiger Roll is another obvious one but only his Triumph was a G1 victory, but that doesn’t make him any less of a crowd favourite..

I specifically gave myself an extra couple to add Faugheen and Quevega then completely forgot about Quevega and went for "other"

My personal choice is Sprinter Sacre.


I was there for his Arkle win was the second festival I had been to, and it was the best live performance I'd ever seen.

Cemented himself as one of the best 2 mile chasers with a huge number the year after in the QMCC (a figure that puts Altior in the shadows)

Then to fall away for a couple of years due to injury, come back and regain the QMCC by beating one of the other greats of the game in Un De Sceaux was absolute fairytale stuff.



The excitement, the visuals, the OR, the fall from grace and then reaching the top for one last hurrah.

What a horse.

Quevega was running in a meaningless race...she should have been facing Big Bucks so can't have her.

Tiger Roll is exceptional, but his back-to-back Grand National's are the highlight rather than winning Cross Country and Amatuer races.

It's obviously not going to be the Mighty Hurricane Fly as Cheltenham wasn't his play ground.

Faugheen was special but injury knocks him down a beg or two - not his fault and a big shame.

Altior is special too, can't knock anything bar a "monster performance".

Vautour should get a mention. Good in his Supreme, ridiculous in his JLT and superb in the Ryanair. If that sentence ended in Gold Cup rather than Ryanair he'd have made the shortlist

Big Bucks was sent an invite to Punchestown every year, and he turned it down.
She had to beat the ones he beat instead (just easier).

Punchestown has about as much relevance as you do on this forum.:highly_amused:

Quevega was invited to the Stayers Hurdle.


Ruby has ruined her legacy.
 
SPRINTER SACRE for me, the best chaser I have had the pleasure to see.
Cheltenham Festival RPR of 190 is way above the others Festival performances.

Sprinter, for me.

2013 Champion Chase was amazing, but 2016 had me in bits, and the lads in the villa wondered what I was getting choked up about, lol.
 
I totally get the love for Sprinter Sacre, undoubtedly one of the greatest 2 milers of all time, I too remember witnessing the scenes after his second Champion Chase, a reception I hadn’t seen since Moscow Flyer, but I think people are getting carried away with the emotion around that victory as in addition to his previous Champion Chase and Arkle wins he was beaten in a Supreme and PU in Dodging Bullets’ race.
3/5 at Cheltenham in March.
Extraordinary horse, but tasting defeat twice is enough to knock him off top spot for me...
