Coping at work

I would be less than useless if I was at work during Cheltenham week.

Had to work the Tuesday in 2015, took all my willpower not to check results. Finally gave in before the mares, very happy with what I saw. Had a very quick glance at Twitter after the mares and saw Mullins had had the winner and made an assumption on the horse. Spent the rest of the day feeling very pleased with myself until I got home to watch the replays...... that was pretty difficult to take!!

The moral is, working during Cheltenham week is just not good for your health.

Couple of years ago I was in a 3 day workshop I couldn't get out of. What I did was turn off my phone from the first race onwards and didn't go near the internet. I then managed to get home without knowing any of the results. Hooked up the laptop to the big screen and went to the jockey club website and straight to videos (covering up the right hand menu bar with a piece of paper in case there was a headline about the winner). Click on the first race and expand screen size (can now put the piece of paper down), sit back, open a beer and relax. Repeat for each race :)

I work in advertising. Everyone loves it, we usually have it on on the office big screen. Little betting ring in front of it.

And all the media owners have loads of spaces to take you too. Got in for free on Tuesday last year and fingers crossed have Gold Cup day nailed this year.

I've booked time off from Wednesday on. Tuesday is a good day for banter in the office but I almost missed the gold cup with a meeting last year, and want to ensure I can go if I get the call up for jollies.

Otherwise the plan is I'm going to make myself a banging lunch with a high end bottle of plonk and watch at home.

Could you start early or work late - alternatively organise office Yankee and get them all watching

Same! Only so many times I could take 4 day sick period around same date every year before got caught on!

As soon as holidays reset at work, it’s the first thing I do. Book Cheltenham week off.

I didn't book 2015 off, Coneygree was my big bet but i literally couldn't get near a tv and missed the race. Promised I'd never miss Cheltenham week again.

This year I'm off until the Weds after the festival, lazy day the Tuesday, day in town watching this racing with SeanRock consoling him after Delta Work turns over Topofthegame in the RSA :devilish:. Another lazy day on the Thursday then I'm off to Amsterdam on a jollyier the Friday. Leaving Dublin at 13.20 so will just about catch the Gold Cup.

Can't wait.

Just got asked “what’s fat jockey?” By someone peering over my shoulder :highly_amused:

No point in trying to hide it

:highly_amused: Never mind Festival week I struggle every day after handicap weights.

For me it's the Monday after Superbowl, 6 weeks to go and a daily ritual of checking updates, prices and of course the dreaded setback/out articles...

I can't get on the forum on my work computer.

I reckon I'd be sacked within the year if I could get on

haha same Kev, I started my new job (again!!) last Monday and cannot get on in the day now.

My advice: find a job where you can be home by 3.48 in the afternoon! Hold on..wait a minute..........

:highly_amused: The phone battery takes a hammering in any/all down time
