WINTER ESCAPE – 5yo gelding
Trainer: Alan King
Form: 111-

Arguably the most exciting horse in the yard of Alan King, this five-year-old was three from three over hurdles last term, culminating in success in the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices Hurdle at Kempton in February. His trainer stressed last year how immature the gelding was and that final run took quite a lot out of him so connections decided to put him away for the summer and miss the Spring Festivals at Cheltenham and Aintree.

In all three of his starts last term, he showed a lot of talent, travelling strongly in his races before picking up when asked in the closing stages of the contest. If there is one thing he might need to work on it is his jumping as he would have won the Dovecote much more comfortably with a better leap at the last. However, I have no doubt that he will improve again this season and on his current mark of 142, the top handicap hurdles such as the Greatwood next weekend are likely to be on his agenda. I imagine he will be contesting Graded conditions hurdles by the end of the season and he should benefit from his trainer’s patience at the end of last season
