Very interesting read especially the 5 reasons given as to why he won't win on Saturday. Would certainly make me think twice about backing him if I was that way inclined.

Thinking about it, re your profile name it all makes sense now. When I was a kid I was attacked by a loose Alsation and later on in life I was savaged by 3 of them when their owner couldn't control them passing me on the pavement. You've come back to haunt me again !
germanshepherd 's first post was a scathing attack on Quevega if I remember correctly.

Most of the 69 posts so far are pulling someone up for being wrong....

Not a lot of pro-active or positive posting....but early days I suppose.... things can only get better....

Obviously I loved the one having a pop at you Lobos

Would be well boring if we were all lovey dovey and agreed with everything everyone said. Forum wouldn't last 5 minutes if that happened !

To be fair they tried making him a 3 miler, or at least put him on the path of being one 18 months ago.
I said this back in October and it still applies for me,

He'll be 11 years old in March and I think he's got a tough task to win the race purely for that reason. Especially as despite racking up 4 festival wins in a row, he hasn't been without his share of albeit small niggles (missed the race last season, was touch and go the year prior and has had plenty of work on his wind). I think he can certainly hold his own in the early stages of the season. It wouldn't surprise me to see him be a fair bit shorter come the New Year but despite Henderson at least putting the trip experiment down to 'peer pressure' i'd be very wary that connections were adamant his future further than 2 miles in April 2019.

“He’s very good at telling you things,” Nicky Henderson said. “He told you one thing today: ‘Go further!’”

De Boinville said: “It’s great to get the record, it’s fantastic. He didn’t travel as sweetly as I’d like him, but we will go up in trip next season and go from there. It looks like he wants it. He wants every yard of two-and-a-half to three miles

What will be close to 2 years on from those comments post-race, it would be his second best training feat to get a 5th festival win and 3rd Queen Mother.
He might be able to get by in the Tingle Creek at the weekend. I'm on the double as I think it was a good bet.
But he's dropped back down to 2 miles when things didn't work out at Ascot. And he was considered a shoe in to run in the King George over 3 miles prior to being beaten with Ascot being a stepping stone. To be wanting to step him up to 3 miles and now another year on and older. Alarm bells for me in terms of if or how close he can match his previous ratings over 2 miles throughout this season.

My thoughts entirely but put so much more elequently than I ever could . You don't want to see these greats of the game fall away but they simply can't go on forever.

I put the question to members of the FJ forum... would your champion hurdler not be faster than your champion chaser on the flat anyway? Surely if you had a chaser that was quicker on the flat they would always just stay over hurdles?

im not sure if I have worded that brilliantly but hopefully you get my point.
Good question TOTG. I would expect them to be the same, all things equal. Altior was never a slow horse and would most probably have won a CH himself, had connections gone down that route.

He is giving Epatante a few years so maybe takes a bit longer to get going these days.

Can't wait to see him in action on Saturday. I won't have a penny on him but will be cheering him home.

              • Those comments jono brought back up are a prime example of just how much shite jockeys and trainers talk sometimes. As I’ve said previously. They’re not lying so much as just trotting out stereotypical horse racing shit. If it suits their agenda/career.

Me too FM! He’s a real star of the NH game and I want to see the best horses performing at their very best.

He’s in quite a few roll ups for me @ 5/4 and jumped on the 14/1 double.

risky business I know but if you don’t take the risks you can’t reap the rewards

Only heavy on the hurdles course isn't it? Soft, GS in places on the chase. Not too much rain forecast between now and then.
