Ruby 2000 at Cheltenham ?
Fri, Mar 2nd, 2012

Having seen this weekends declarations, we think Ruby Walsh's march to 2000 UK and Ireland career winners now looks more likely to happen sometime during the 2012 Cheltenham Festival. The top jockey has has seven rides this weekend. We currently have Ruby on 1992 winners with Thursday's win on Hats and Heels at Thurles the only addition to his tally since last weekend.

Ruby Walsh teams up with Paul Nicholls for four rides at Newbury Saturday on Niche Market, Aerial, Sire Collonges, and Subtle Sovereign. Niche Markets has a projected 7/2 favourites chance in the 2:40, the williamhill.com Support Greatwood Veterans' Handicap Chase.  It looks an open race though with Fair Along, Ouzbeck and Blazing Bailey all likely to have supporters. Ruby also rides the favourite Aerial (4/1 on the tissue) in,  the Newbury feature,  the 3:10 Barbury International Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase. Sire Collonges is an anticipated 7/2 shot in the next race the Ladbrokes Supporting Greatwood Handicap Hurdle. His last ride of the day, Subtle Sovereign in the concluding DBS Spring Sales Bumper (Standard Open NH Flat Race) looks the least likely winner at 8/1.

On Sunday at Leopardstown Ruby rides Lord Gale in the Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Maiden Hurdle for Wille Mullins. The gelding has chalked up four sucessive placed efforts but will probably start favourite. Ruby's father Ted Walsh provides him with his other two rides on Sunday. That'll Do Me is a7/1 shot in the www.leopardstown.com Handicap Hurdle.Colbert Station runs in the Carrickmines Handicap Chase. Montan is the projected favourite and given previous form Montan backers might consider an in running lay to recover their stakes.

We wouldnt expect Ruby to get any more than two or three winners out of that lot which would still leave him 4 or 5 short of 2000.
