Thu, Jan 31st, 2013
Panel - Nicky Henderson, Charlie Swan, Lucinda Russell and AP McCoy.
GRAND National winning jockey AP McCoy is champing at the bit to get to the Cheltenham Festival Preview Night Evening at the Glasgow Hilton .
The jockey, one of the most successful in history, will be answering questions at the event alongside some of the sport's top trainers Lucinda Russell, Nicky Henderson and Charlie Swan, and he says he is really looking forward to being in Glasgow to help raise funds for Maggie's and St Andrew's Hospice.
He said: "I rarely get a chance to make it up to Scotland due to my riding commitments, so attending the Cheltenham Preview Evening has given me a great excuse to visit Glasgow. I always receive a warm welcome and I'm looking forward to the night. It'll be a great night, and the aim is to raise money and awareness of the fantastic charities Maggie's Centres & St Andrews Hospice, which both help those with cancer and support their families and friends. Cancer creeps into most of our lives, affecting one in three people, so I fully support the exceptional work Maggie's and St Andrews Hospice does and its aims to expand and develop over the coming years."
The evening will be chaired by Channel 4 racing presenter Nick Luck who will be joined by Johnny Gould as auctioneer plus Henrietta Knight, Arthur Moore and Gordon Brown as roving reporter.
Trainer Lucinda Russell said: "Cheltenham is the pinnacle of the national hunt racing year and it is the meet at which trainers, jockeys, owners and punters all want to win.The Cheltenham preview evening gives us a chance to direct people to what we believe are the best horses to back while also raising money for two fantastic organisations, funds which I know are vital for both charities in order to continue providing their valuable and unique support for people with cancer."
Auction prizes on the night include a box for 10 at Cheltenham Gold Cup Day, a tour around Seven Barrows, gallops and out for lunch (flights and transport included) and a package of 2 tickets to a London red carpet Disney premiere with an overnight stay in a London Hotel.
Nicky Henderson said: "I am delighted to be able to help in anyway and I am greatly looking forward to coming up to Glasgow for the evening to help raise funds for Maggie's and St Andrew's Hospice."
Katie Mulgrew, Director of Fundraising at St Andrew's Hospice said: "This is the first Cheltenham Festival Preview Evening of this type to be held in Scotland and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has made this event possible. We all have the ability to make a difference to people's lives and the generosity and support that has been given to both charities has been overwhelming. We can care....because you care."
Maggie's Glasgow Community Fundraiser Elizabeth Emmerson said: "For anyone who is a fan of racing this is an amazing opportunity to get up close and personal to some of the sport's top names and to ask those questions you have always wanted to ask. Of course it is also a fantastic way for people to show their support for Maggie's and St Andrew's and help us to continue to provide the programme of support we offer to people with cancer, their friends and families."
