    Temple Stakes

    Robert Cowell ....

"Spirit Quartz will probably run in the Temple Stakes as well. He was fourth in the Palace House last time and he's a nice horse. After Haydock he could go for a race in France, or join the other two at Ascot. It's really good to have three really nice sprinters to go to war with," added the trainer.

Last year's Betfred.com Temple Stakes winner Sole Power is one of 19 sprinters in the running for the 2012 renewal at Haydock on Saturday.

Eddie Lynam's experienced traveller, just beaten in the Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai last time, faces a rematch with the Bryan Smart-trained Tangerine Trees, who became a Group One star himself when winning the Prix de l'Abbaye and has not appeared since that very day.

The Roger Charlton-trained Bated Breath, beaten just a nose in the Sprint Cup at the Lancashire course last season, is another eminent speed merchant among the entries - although he is also engaged in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh on the same afternoon.

Robert Cowell has three possible contenders in Prohibit, Monsieur Joe and Spirit Quartz.

"Prohibit breezed just now with all his old enthusiasm, he's without doubt on song and heads to the Temple Stakes on Saturday," Cowell tweeted on Monday.

"Spirit Quartz has also galloped with gusto this morning and will join Prohibit at Haydock on Saturday."

Several smart two-year-olds could also feature, with Richard Hannon's filly Best Terms and the Kevin Ryan-trained Bapak Chinta, a good winner of the Norfolk Stakes who finished last on his final start in the Middle Park Stakes, others to catch the eye.

Ed McMahon has the option of running Temple Meads, a top juvenile in 2010 who only recently made his comeback, while the astounding veteran Borderlescott is still engaged for Robin Bastiman.

Henry Candy has left in Dinkum Diamond, rather than Amour Propre, who beat Sole Power in last August's Flying Five Stakes.

"Dinkum Diamond will run at the weekend, while Amour Propre pulled a shoe off and will run in the Achilles Stakes back at Haydock the following Friday," Candy said.
