  • 2016 Martin Pipe Conditionals Hurdle

Have to find a Gigginstown horse in this.

Thought Petit Mouchair might be the one. This one in Sporting life Notebook

    Archive (Eoin Griffin)

Henry Higgins showed a smart turn of foot to come from off the pace in a slowly-run Coral.ie Hurdle at Leopardstown to add his name to an illustrious list of winners in a race that often provides a decent pointer to the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle at Cheltenham. Third-home Desoto County lacked the pace of the winner but finished off his race well on just his third run for Gordon Elliott and appeals as runner with more to offer but there should also be more to come from the less impressive Archive who trailed home in thirteenth. An early mistake may have contributed to him losing a relatively prominent pitch but he was soon in rear and there he remained for much of the race. He was ridden to improve straightening up and, although the effort was rather short-lived and he was no match for the principals, I did feel that there was enough promise in the run for him to be considered granted more favourable conditions. Although not disgraced on heavy ground prior to this, all of his form suggests that quicker conditions will help to show him in a better light. He should be effective between two and two and a half miles and he remains one to note in handicaps in the spring having come up short in a couple of graded races this winter. The Martin Pipe at Cheltenham could be just the ticket although much will depend on how the British handicapper rates him as his Irish mark of 131 would not have been sufficient to make the cut last year.
