Royale Night was last horse in last year - I think he was 47 on the list this time last year

          10-6s get in

          10-5 probably tight ?

cause of causes still in the Irish version but probably too soon. Maybe Ayr ?

            Morning Assembly

Fahy said: "He came back from Cheltenham well. He didn't have any cuts or bruises and we rode him out for the first time since this morning and he seems in great form.

"The Aintree National is definitely the plan and with Don Cossack winning the Gold Cup, you would have to say on his best form he must go there with a great chance.

"I was delighted with how he jumped in Cheltenham and it just proved the run before in Gowran was down to the ground. He just couldn't jump out of it that day.

"He was much better last week, apart from the third-last where he just took off too far off it.

"It's credit to the horse and to Davy (Russell) that he stood up as he barely made it. But for that he would definitely have been an easy third.

"We've plenty time enough before Aintree. He's all the work done and he's in tip-top shape, so it's just a case of freshening him up and giving him a couple of blows.

"I'm happy with where we are with the horse."

Fahy is keeping his fingers crossed Russell will be on board again at Aintree on April 9.

"Hopefully Davy will ride him," the trainer added.

"Davy is one of the cutest jockeys around and knows the horse well.

"He might have other commitments, so we'll just have to wait and see."

Long run retired, he was a much better horse than he was given credit for, too precocious for his own good really

A brillant horse but probably not as loved as he should have been because he defeated Kauto and Denman.

Not so sure, I think people just resent French breds who peak at 5/6, regress from 7 and are done by 8 or 9, that was a golden era for staying chasers and the fact there were 3 top top class horses enhanced the generation for me....

Saint Are looks well in again this year off 1lbs lower and went off at 25/1 last year. Can see him going off 16's this year.

Soll was well punted into 9's last year and was going well for a long way. Does anyone fancy him at 40's nrnb?

Very interested in Saint Are LR, looks primed for a big run and last years experience will be invaluable.
Less confident in Soll, if it came up deep he could have a squeek but he's had a few goes already and come up short, heavy rain could change that of course....

I've been backing Perfect Candidate for weeks now and every time I see 100/1 or bigger I take some, but realised the other day he must be odds against to make the cut, if he does get in he'd be a 20/1 shot....

This was the stage 47 was last in from in 2015

There are 96 horses going forward for the £1-million Crabbie's Grand National at Aintree following today's scratchings' stage. Last year 74 were left in at this stage, while 73 went forward in 2014 and 57 in 2013. A maximum of 40 runners can line up for the 169th running of the world's most famous jump race at 5.15pm on Saturday, April 9.

Grade Three handicap chase, £1,000,000 total prize fund. Aintree Racecourse. 5.15pm, Saturday, April 9, 2016, four miles, two and a half furlongs (4m 2f 74yds). For seven-year-olds and upwards which, up to and including March 21, have been placed first, second, third or fourth in a chase with an official distance description of 'about three miles' or more and which are allotted a rating of 120 or more by the BHA Head of Handicapping following a review of the horses entered and after taking account of races run up to and including February 14. Horses which are not qualified for a rating in Great Britain or Ireland at closing may also be entered. Such horses may be eligible for a weight providing the Handicapper is satisfied that the horse's racecourse performances up to and including February 14 would merit a minimum rating of 120. To qualify, horses must have run at least three times in chases run under the Rules of Racing of the same Recognised Racing Authority up to and including February 14. At the Handicapper's discretion, such horses may be allocated a rating. The decision of the BHA Head of Handicapping shall be final. Entries closed, February 2, entries revealed February 3 (126 entries).Weights revealed February 16. First scratchings deadline March 1 (113 remained), second scratchings deadline March 22 (96 go forward). Five-day confirmation stage April 4, final declarations 10am, April 7.
