Connection of Pique Sous feel he could be a Supreme Novices' Hurdle contender at next year's Cheltenham Festival.

Willie Mullins's five-year-old has not yet raced over hurdles, but could not have looked any more stylish in a Bellewstown bumper on Saturday. He also finished third in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Jockey Patrick Mullins said: "He did exactly what we thought he would do. His class got him through as he is really a good-ground horse. He has got loads of speed and he is probably a Supreme Novices' horse. The sky's the limit for him."

Minella Forfitness, a point-to-point winner in April, was having his first start for Henderson and owner Michael Buckley in a Kempton bumper and after being backed into odds-on favouritism he scored by an impressive 12 lengths.

The five-year-old, who was bred by Gerard Mullins and sold for 130,000 at Cheltenham in April, looks a hugely exciting prospect.

The Racing Post’s analysis read: "MINELLA FORFITNESS, a half-brother to six winners including Minella Theatre, was picked up by current connections for 130,000 after winning an Irish point last April and this performance suggests that could be money well spent. He travelled like a dream, was sent effortlessly to the front over 2f out, and won this with his head in his chest. He looks an exciting prospect."

PIQUE SOUS entered at Cork on Sunday. Hardly going to be the same ground he can expect in March

Formscan By Eamonn Murphy - The bigger the field the bigger the certainty as the old saying goes and that'll be put to the test again here by PIQUE SOUS. Patrick Mullins uttered the words "probably a Supreme Novices' horse. The sky's the limit for him," after he'd scored at Bellewstown in July and he followed that up with a similarly striking display at Tipperary. The grey was fancied by some shrewd judges when finishing a close up third as a 12/1 chance in the Cheltenham Bumper and really if his jumping is up to scratch here, on his debut over timber, it should be plain-sailing. He did miss an engagement at this venue over flights earlier in the month owing to a temperature. Ted Dolly, Swampfire (in at Kilbeggan on Friday), Benefit Days and Roisin Dubh are the most likely place contenders.

Even at this early stage of the season, Nicholls believes Dodging Bullets could be good enough to contest the William Hill Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Festival in March and plans to give him more match practice at next month's Open meeting at Prestbury Park.

"I was very pleased with that performance," said Nicholls, who went on to complete a double with the Walsh-ridden Southfield Theatre in the Guy Knights Memorial Bumper.

"He'll be running in the top novice hurdles this season.

"He's not the easiest horse to train because he can be very keen, so we train him on his own to get him to switch off.

"He had a breathing operation over the summer – he struggled with it last season – and hasn't been in for as long as some of the others, so I expect him to improve for the run.

"It was only his fourth race and he'll be better for the experience.

"I think there's a lot more to come and he could be a really nice novice."

    Supreme Novices Hurdle 2013

Cant see a thread and as I said on the Neptune thread hard to figure which way some of the contenders will go but love watching the new ones come out.

Would you back a Weld horse at Cheltenham if he got there ?

Waaheb was an impressive winner on his hurdles debut at Fairyhouse despite having had 538 days off the track.

In yet another brilliant training performance by Dermot Weld following Rite Of Passage's triumphant return at Ascot on Saturday, Waaheb made up for lost time with the minimum of fuss in the Premier Jump Weekend At Fairyhouse Hurdle in the colours of JP McManus.

Winner of three bumpers before finishing a short-head second in the Champion INH Flat Race at Punchestown in May 2011, he was sent off the 8-13 favourite and was held up in the early stages by Mark Walsh as Decade Player made most of the running.

Waaheb made smooth progress to challenge in the straight and a good jump at the last took him into the lead before he pulled nicely clear to score by six and a half lengths from Silver Friend.

Weld said: "That was very satisfactory. He still has a lot to learn. He was a bit novicey early, but his jumping improved as the race progressed.

"We'll look for a novice but could wait until Christmas as we're not in any hurry with him. I hope the spring is his target. He's won in testing ground there, but that's really not what he wants. He's a talented horse with a lot of class."
