      8. FLETCHERS FLYER (6 b g Winged Love – Crystal Chord)
Form: 2-1 Trainer: Harry Fry Owner: Masterton Holdings Limited

Irish point-to-point recruit who shaped with a good deal of promise on his Rules debut when chasing home subsequent Grade 2 winner Relic Rock in a bumper at Uttoxeter in March, attempting to make all and responding well once headed (pair clear). He duly went one better in a well-contested 2m 2f bumper at Punchestown a couple of months later, leading/close up throughout and asserting with around two furlongs left to run but rather forced to hold on close home, scoring by half a length from the staying on Sub Lieutenant. This son of Winged Love has shaped on both outings under Rules as though a stayer in the making, likely to find 3m well within his compass this season; has the potential to make up into a serious contender for something such as the Albert Bartlett.one from the SBB columns to follow 16-1 in the market. Could be worth a punt antepost selection.

Few bits of 20s about. I like the trainer.

          Welcome on board Dazzler.

I'd be careful with FF - maybe best wait for NRNB

Quote from Nick Scholfield after win in Jan

The ground was quite testing at Wincanton last Saturday but Fletchers Flyer made light work of the conditions and he really impressed me. He galloped his rivals into the ground. He may go for a better race at Haydock in January, but it is doubtful whether he will go for the Festival.

Harry Fry is such a good trainer and I have the utmost respect for him. He knows how good Fletchers Flyer is, and Cheltenham won’t be a high priority at this stage in his career.

Mopped up a few of bigger prices on Lite Duties. Eyecatching run at Punchestown that qualifies him for Pertemps so that could also be the target.

Byrnes record in this race is excellent though

                    Paz you seen this

                    Donn Mc Clean

                    Martello Tower

Martello Tower put up a good performance to finish second to Outlander in the Grade 2 two-and-a-half-mile novices hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday, over a distance that was surely too sharp for the Milan gelding.

Settled into a nice rhythm just behind the leaders Hurry Henry and Net D’Ecosse, Adrian Heskin started to niggle him along as they left the back straight as he moved up on the outside of the leaders. Three wide rounding the top turn, he shipped a bit of a bump from Hurry Henry on the run to the second last flight, but he jumped the obstacle well and landed in front. He was quickly challenged by the two Gigginstown horses, however, No More Heroes on his outside and Outlander, who got a dream run through on the inside. Barry Connell’s horse looked vulnerable as he came under pressure from the top of the home straight, but he dug deep.

Outlander zipped through on the rail and quickly went two lengths up, but Martello Tower fought off No More Heroes on the run to the final flight, and then saw off Killultagh Vic’s challenge on the run-in. He could not bridge the gap to Outlander, the winner just had too much pace for him over this trip, but he did reduce the deficit from four lengths to three by the time they reached the winning line, and there was no disgrace in going down by that margin to a talented and progressive individual who was competing over his optimum trip and to whom he was conceding 5lb.

This was the second time that this pair have met in the space of four weeks. Their previous meeting was in a Grade 3 contest over three miles at Limerick’s Christmas Festival, when Martello Tower’s superior stamina came to the fore. The Mags Mullins-trained horse was conceding 6lb to Outlander on that occasion, and he battled on well to beat him by a neck. The drop in trip for Sunday’s race was in Outlander’s favour and against Martello Tower. Both horses emerge from the race with credit but, while the winner is a possible Neptune Hurdle horse, Martello Tower is surely a Albert Bartlett horse now. He has a lot of the attributes that you look for in an Albert Bartlett winner (a seven-year-old who has won over three miles and who is rated 135 or higher), and he should relish the stamina test that that race usually presents.

I prefer Fry's other "Thomas Brown" if his jumping improves. How he stayed on well behind Out Sam after his juddering mistake at the last makes him a stayer in my eyes. Won next beating Zeroshadesofgrey by 8L and Robinsfirth by 1/2L giving the later weight.

Can't argue with that pick either LR - bobs worh route to the Albert Bartlett....

The last three runnings of the race have been won by subsequent Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth, who went on to win the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle at the festival that March, the ill-fated Barbatos and Aubusson, who won the Grade 3 Fixed Brush Hurdle at Haydock earlier this season. Thomas Brown won in a manner that suggested he too would be suited by a greater emphasis on the depths of his reserves.

His trainer said: "He's a real out and out galloper and a stayer in the making. We had him in the Challow but didn't feel we could run him given his rating. He's definitely a three-miler and I think we'll now bring him straight back for the Albert Bartlett because he had a hard race today and gave his all."

Somethings tells me Fry ran him in those shorter races to try get his jumping slicker when quicker, knowing he is a stayer/3miler. Has a chance if his jumping improves.

Hi love racing. Great to have new and knowledgable posters

Harry Fry seems to be very canny. Noel is a great asset to that yard too.

Maybe I was wrong, it was the 3rd last and not last when he made that big mistake.

                                Thanks for the find OV.
