I must tally his total G1 wins - well over 200 and miles clear of the field.

As great as McCoys numbers were and his sheer iron will to win for me Ruby was always the best. Delighted he’s managed to go out on his own terms after a huge win

I got into the sport in 2013, hearing about this horse called Hurricane Fly, ridden by Ruby Walsh.

My love and interest in the sport is so intrinsicly entwined with Ruby I'm slightly at a loss with that I'll do without him. Though Townend riding ABP to the Gold Cup for me felt like a passing of the guard.

Ruby and McCoy were very different - McCoy loved winning, and he'd travel the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland to win, but Ruby was always the big match player, the guy you wanted on the last leg of you acca (excusing the two high profile times when not of course!)

I'll miss the msery guts a great deal
