      • It's exactly 100 years since the winner, ridden by Lester's granddad, started at less than 6/1 and 99 years since the SP was less than 13/2.

7/2 is a bonkers price. Most horses are 6/4 to even get round so you're effectively saying that Tiger Roll is odds on to win if he gets round.

I agree and am not backing tiger roll

But I wouldn't lay at odds against if he did get round.

Hard to argue he's not a better horse this year.

Couldn't back him but I'd love to see him win

What price should he be then??

There's an argument that, if you agree that Auvergnat ran below par at Cheltenham, Tiger Roll's performance wasn't much of an improvement on last year. I don't lay horses but I certainly wouldn't dream of backing any horse for the National at less than 6/1.

                  They should all be 40/1

                    • Tiger Roll is going to be 5/1 at least on the Saturday, isn't he? He has to be backed in this, even if purely as a saver imo.

Yeah they'll have to push him out.

I think I could let him win without backing him - win only in the National makes me sweat.

                            • My two against the field are...

The Tiger win at 5/1 with a few free bets. Can’t disown him now despite his price. He’s hard as nails & takes his racing very well. He’s in better shape than he was 12 months ago & he’ll probably get more suitable ground! Impossible to ignore

Vintage Clouds 18/1 e/w. A dour stayer! Will be right at the bottom of the weights (provided he gets in), perfect age profile, 3rd in Scottish National = less question marks over the trip, dry forecast so should have his ground, will be his 2nd run since wind op which is a bonus, only worry is the quick 25 day turnaround from the Ultima! Owner buys them with the GN in mind & related to the great Many Clouds. What’s not to like?

                              • He is only related to Many Clouds through the stallion. The dam is a very different story and is where most stamina is derived from. I can see Vintage Clouds may be more like Cloudy Lane rather than Many Clouds and my eyes told me that Lake View Lad was catching the front two in the Ultima. Lake View Lad just keeps improving and he is Hemmings' best hope in my humble opinion. Never fallen over the larger obstacles and quite importantly, for me, has never ever pulled up. That suggests to me that this boy is akin to a Duracell bunny!

Vintage Clouds just doesn't strike me as Grand National horse. 5 runs over 28f plus with form figures of 3743P. Respectable enough but not seeing him producing a win in the big one. This isn't the Welsh or Scottish National. This is much much harder to win.
