Started having a look at the card for day one of Aintree. Down 10pts already from the Altior no show i won't be having too many bets but these are the few that take my fancy right now, will make final selections once declared...
13:45 2m3 Novice Chase
Would have been incredibly keen on Rather Be here after his second at the Cheltenham Festival but sadly no entry. Kalondra 10/1 missed the Cheltenham festival and as long as the ground is
14:20 2m Juvenile Hurdle
For all Apple's Shakira was a big disappointment in the Triumph, she was still easily the best of the British runners (albeit only 3 others who do all re-oppose). I think that is still a level above the Fred Winter having beaten Nube Negra (3rd) and Style de Garde (2nd) clearly being below her in the pecking order in the yard. Will be a choice nearer the time to either her on We Have a Dream who I had of expected to be bigger in price (11/4 compared to 9/4 AS).
14:50 3m Aintree Bowl
Can't see past Might Bite here. My only concern would have been the hard race in the Gold Cup but based on the vibes from Henderson, he's come out very well. Balko des Flos looks to be heading to the Melling Chase (would be surprised if he doesn't go there). A race to watch Might Bite win
15:25 2m4 Aintree Hurdle
Sadly no Buveur D'Air. Haven't actually looked at this race yet. Supasundae brings by far the best form into the race but could be worth My Tent Or Yours at 7/1 EW with William Hill. 2nd in the race last year and beat Melon on it's last run (receiving weight). May struggle to beat the fav but hard to see him out the places
Now for the 2 horses i'm most interested in...
16:05 2m5 Foxhunter Chase
Big fan of Balnaslow but looking to take him on at his current price (I assume O'Connor will be riding due to his links with the horse but i'd want to him onboard if I was backing him as well). Mendip Express 12/1 has come 2nd in the Becher Chase, 3rd in this race in 2016 and 5 the in the race last year. Was also only beaten a neck by the fav at the Punchestown festival last season. Distime 33/1 is the other in the race I like. Again has good course form - 3rd in the Grand Sefton, 4th in the Topham and 2nd on 3 other runs. Ran in this race last season but unseated after the 3rd so far too early to take anything from that. Will Biddick rides which is a positive. Will be his first run back since this race last season but he's performed well off long breaks before - 222283. A little shocked at his price
16:40 2m Red Rum Handicap Chase
Made my case for King's Socks 10/1 in the yankee thread.
