  • Aintree Day One 2018

Started having a look at the card for day one of Aintree. Down 10pts already from the Altior no show i won't be having too many bets but these are the few that take my fancy right now, will make final selections once declared...

    13:45 2m3 Novice Chase

Would have been incredibly keen on Rather Be here after his second at the Cheltenham Festival but sadly no entry. Kalondra 10/1 missed the Cheltenham festival and as long as the ground is

    14:20 2m Juvenile Hurdle

For all Apple's Shakira was a big disappointment in the Triumph, she was still easily the best of the British runners (albeit only 3 others who do all re-oppose). I think that is still a level above the Fred Winter having beaten Nube Negra (3rd) and Style de Garde (2nd) clearly being below her in the pecking order in the yard. Will be a choice nearer the time to either her on We Have a Dream who I had of expected to be bigger in price (11/4 compared to 9/4 AS).

    14:50 3m Aintree Bowl

Can't see past Might Bite here. My only concern would have been the hard race in the Gold Cup but based on the vibes from Henderson, he's come out very well. Balko des Flos looks to be heading to the Melling Chase (would be surprised if he doesn't go there). A race to watch Might Bite win

    15:25 2m4 Aintree Hurdle

Sadly no Buveur D'Air. Haven't actually looked at this race yet. Supasundae brings by far the best form into the race but could be worth My Tent Or Yours at 7/1 EW with William Hill. 2nd in the race last year and beat Melon on it's last run (receiving weight). May struggle to beat the fav but hard to see him out the places

Now for the 2 horses i'm most interested in...

    16:05 2m5 Foxhunter Chase

Big fan of Balnaslow but looking to take him on at his current price (I assume O'Connor will be riding due to his links with the horse but i'd want to him onboard if I was backing him as well). Mendip Express 12/1 has come 2nd in the Becher Chase, 3rd in this race in 2016 and 5 the in the race last year. Was also only beaten a neck by the fav at the Punchestown festival last season. Distime 33/1 is the other in the race I like. Again has good course form - 3rd in the Grand Sefton, 4th in the Topham and 2nd on 3 other runs. Ran in this race last season but unseated after the 3rd so far too early to take anything from that. Will Biddick rides which is a positive. Will be his first run back since this race last season but he's performed well off long breaks before - 222283. A little shocked at his price

16:40 2m Red Rum Handicap Chase

Made my case for King's Socks 10/1 in the yankee thread.

Cheers Jono, stuck MTOY, Distime and King's Socks with Balko Des Flos with Hills (clear best price on 3 of those) at 18k to 1 (price boost E/W acca)

Only 1 for the thurday so far.

DISSAVRIL In the mares bumper is a fine big French mare. She's plenty of experiance, cruised up in her listed race over here. Why she's 10/1 I couldnt tell you. If she was trained by 1 of the big guns she'd be 7/2 <

10/1 with Betfair Sportsbook charlie, and now into 8/1 with Paddy.

I know an owner in the yard and they gave this horse to me yesterday morning!

Quite keen on Clan Des Obeaux's chances of causing a bit of an upset in the Betway Bowl Chase. He comes here fresh and this race will have been his main target for the year. Might Bite had a proper hard race of it at Cheltenham and conditions are likely to be testing again which will suit CDO. He's been carefully nursed along by Nicholls so far and looks a big strong stayer in the making. 22/1 e/w with Betfair.

So am I Sean. I really want to take MB on and can see the Gold Cup leaving its mark. CDO and BDM are the two I've backed so far

Have to say my ears pricked up when I heard he was entered!

Do we know when he got back in to training, as he had a little setback didn't he?

It is a shame they don't have a lay option somewhere

True, but I don't like 3 or 4 in the race so would rather back those who I think can beat him.

Someone said to me a while back that 365 now had a lay option, whether this is for selected races or not I couldn’t say....

I've seen that and actually never looked at it compared to the exchanges.

Tea For Two and Double Shuffle part of the ones you do or don't like FM?

The dead 8 at the moment and still ante post so tonight would be the time to strike I suppose!

Obliged. I've watched the Market Rasen run, does that very nicely.

Link to the french runs anywhere?
