Ultima Handicap Chase 2019

Wowsers.
I'll not spoil it for those who havent listened yet but give the FFP podcast for what Harry derham has said about Give me a copper.

Ooooooh.

I don't know what to do :highly_amused:

Could someone please post a link, I’m not on twitter and can’t find FFP online??? I’m getting Feminism & Funeral Potatoes!!!

What’s he said?

Re Give Me A Copper

Derham said Cobden never talks up a horse but got off Give Me A Copper who had done zero work after Sandown and said he was a complete machine

Harry then followed that up by saying he thinks its their best chance of the week

Fighting talk that's for sure. I've just watched that race back and I have to agree. Jumps and travels well, looks the winner but then just gets a bit tired.

The worst priced horse at the festival i think.

Can't understand his price at all; won a 2 horse race + well beaten at Sandown. Could be 20pds well in for all we know, but Nicholls has an awful record in the race.

Agreed. He's one to take on for me

Yep and me. Wouldn't mind some 20/1 or bigger on him but couldn't entertain him at singe figure prices. Will probably be bigger on the day.

I remember him being very much a talking horse when he was purchased.

Still extremely lightly raced for his age, he could still be absolutely anything over fences tbf.

I would have my doubts, as others have expressed, but the form PN is in, coupled with the stables confidence would have to come under some sort of recognition, the main problem now is because he was put up so early by Paul Kealy he is not a price that would interest many of us, for a race as competitive as this one.

All this talk of Give Me a Copper smacks of Sam Winner from a few years ago...talked into favouritism by Paul and everyone connected at the stable rather than on anything he's shown on the track.

As is the norm these days the race is full of deadwood but 5/1 is still mystifying. Surely it can't just be Nicholls talking it up? Seven runs under rules, just three over fences. Yes, it is very unexposed but you would like to have seen a lot more to justify that price. At 47 is it even certain to get in?

The one I quite like the look of did well in this race last year and has a good each way chance. Vintage Clouds looks big odds at 33's each way.

Yeah Vintage Clouds is the one I'm looking at too, 4lbs less despite showing good form since last years race

Small chance it's being used as a National Prep?

That kind of puts me off any horse that I know has another huge target (generally anyway)

Good angle on the price though at 4lbs lower.

I'd be encouraged by Vintage Clouds 3rd in last years Scottish National shortly after placing in this race last year, shows he can go well being turned out quickly.

Also a bigger target in mind hasn't stopped the money coming for Minella Rocco

3lb higher I think.
but backed it earlier.
That's 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th from last year I've backed.
not sure why to be fair,

No one worried that JP McManus could be keeping Minella Rocco in this race just to keep the weight down for Jerrysback? I heard on a podcast last week that this could well be the plan, and I have just noticed that Jerrysback has been backed down to 16s & 14s from a solid 25s with all bookies a day or so ago..
