Well, we've made it through the week and it's almost*Betfred*Midlands National time.

Before that slog fest in the Uttoxeter mud tomorrow we have the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle (2.05) and the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual (5.15) to sort out, so there is no easy end to Cheltenham in sight.

As you would expect, both races are strong on stats.

For the County our winner will probably come from a horse with less than 11 stone on its back whose rating is in the 130s.

You are aiming at something who has had four runs or more during the campaign and is either a first or second season hurdler.

Five-year-olds have a storming record and the Irish do well. So, we can get started by getting rid of the chunk from Brampour to Discoteca on the weight and ratings stat.

On the number of runs we can jettison It's A Gimmie, Abbey Lane, Shadow Catcher, Il Fenomeno, Manyriverstocross, Claret Cloak and Knight In Purple.

On the experience front, Dan Breen has too much so the shortlist consists of Princeton Plains, Ifandbutwhynot, Ted Veale, Caravel, Kian's Delight and Kings Lad.

Caraval and Kings Lad don't appear good enough while Kian's Delight hadn't given out much to suggest he can win from this mark.

That leaves PRINCETON PLAINS (2pts ew at 20-1 with Boylesports) and TED VEALE (2pts ew at 12-1 with bet365).

The first named has been running in the right races and ran a stormer in the Betfair Hurdle - better ground will see him improve on that.

Ted Veale comes from a yard that enjoyed a winner yesterday and is rated to go well.

In the Grand Annual, we are again looking to choosing one of the lowerweighted horses with anything carrying over 10st 11lb ignored.

A first three finish last time out is essential. On that ruling Shooters Wood, Oh Crick, Tatenan, King Edmund and Parsnip Pete are eliminated.

Of those that remain it's ALDERWOOD who knocks the eye out.

He won the County Hurdle last year from a mark of 139 and is on 140 over fences. That will do me, so have 2pts win at 6-1 with Betvictor.

Our final attempt to outfox the bookies is RENARD who is on a workable mark and will be better for a comeback run at Chepstow.

2pts ew at 40-1 with Ladbrokes.
