I start with MILEY SHAH (12.55) in the Grade 2 Monksfield Novice Hurdle over two and a half miles and there’s no getting away from that fact he was a bit disappointing when he was fourth at Down Royal at the start of this month.

It’s possible he was a bit flattered on his previous run when he beat Trifolium by over 30 lengths because it was said afterwards that the second needed a wind op. Having said that, if Miley Shah is back to that kind of form then he’ll be a player in this because heavy ground suits him fine.

        Gary O Brien

Another Gordon Elliott-trained youngster Bonisland heads the market for the Grade 2 Monksfield Novice Hurdle at 12.55 but despite looking a really promising type when winning his maiden hurdle at Down Royal earlier this month there is no way he deserves to be as short as 2/1. WINGTIPS, who ran really well in Grade 1 company at both the Cheltenham and Punchestown Festivals last season, has achieved far more yet is over twice the price and Ruby Walsh’s mount has to be the bet. The son of High Chaparral was left with too much to do in a steadily-run affair when turned over at a very short price on his seasonal debut but is much better judged on his fifth to Countrywide Flame in the Triumph Hurdle and a reproduction of that level of performance should make him very hard to beat, with today’s step up to 2m4f unlikely to pose too many problems.
