  • The Festival Of Fibresand(c)

One of the greatest meetings of all time. Southwell fibresand. This place must go down as my favourite track in racing.
It looks a mouth watering card and I will try to go through it. There is no better sight in racing than seeing your fancy take the lead and kick sand in the rivals faces.

    12:30 - GEORGE THOMAS
    win 9.8 betfair
    2 place 4.3 betfair

George Thomas has been really weak on the exchanges all morning. Superb price thanks to the horrific drift.

Won nicely from the front at Lingfield last time and 5lb higher here. Lingfield greatly favours the hold up horses so any horse who can race prominently or make all there is probably a bit better than the handicapper gives them credit for, so he should be capable of defying the race.
Totally different surface here but the prominent racing style plays strength to this surface and the sire HEERAT can produce winners here.
Robert Eddery is a distinctly average AW trainer, no wins at kempton or wolves with 4yo+ in last 5 years and only 2 wins at Chelmsford and Lingfield in that time. Send him to Southwell however and my man goes into BEAST MODE. 7 winners from 27 runners in the last 5 years with 4yo+ here.

He turns up with a probably ahead of the handicapper horse who is in form, his style if racing will suit this surface and the jockey takes off 7lb and won on him last time.
Holds an entry in anothet southwell hcap next week and should win today with the minimum of fuss and would be quite likely to turn out again under a penalty next week. Ruthless Robert Eddery is striking whilst the iron is hot.

The favourite won last time but todays mark has always been beyond him and he is unlikely to win today carrying 10-2.

Followthesteps is of great interest on pedigree and the sire Footstepsinthesand is the best fibresand sire in this race. The jockey booking is what put me off here. I think he is around 0/40 for the trainer on aw.

Flying start at the festival of fibresand as GEORGE 'GALACTICO' Thomas although no match for the fav easily brushes aside the pretenders and lands the 4.3 place bet.

What a start to the festival. The team are in their element here.

The 1:00 Novice race isnt easy to call. Karl Burkes in form and Makthecat should relish the fibresand being a Makfi. Could easily see it winning but no appeal at odds on. Trip could be too short, couod be outpaced or could just outclass them and win easily.

Kevin Ryan has the other Makfi in Bin Makfi. Not ran for over 500 days and hard to predict. Could easily outclass them and win easily or may need this run today and be more of interest in handicaps. A brilliant run looks as likely as a terrible run. so no appeal.

Tranchee is by a War Front who is the best fibresand sire in this race. Positive jockey booking and couldnt rule out.

Winner highly likely to be from one of the above 3 though cant be confident which one.
I expect one horse to be miles clear at the end though not sure which one.

With possibilities that all 3 could also run badly the 3 place market on betfair is of grear interest.

Happy Face doesnt like fibresand and is unlikely to get top 3 today.

It leaves FOXY ELOISE with a better chance pf getting a top 3 than her price suggests.
A claimer was on for debut but her sire can produce fibresand winners and she should improve for that experience and the surface today. Kieran O Neil has a strong record for the trainer on the aw and Robyn Brisand is the only trainer in the race who has trained a horse afed 4yo+ to win a novice race on the aw in the last 5 years.
The mares allowance will come in useful and she has a chance at big odds of getting a top 3 finish here.

        3 places - FOXY ELOISE 10.5 betfair

Despite the shame of Brisland and O'Neil in race 2 the team retain faith in them for race 3.

          1 :30 HARBOUR STORM

          win 25.0
          2 places 8.8
          3 places 5.1

SAYIF is the best sire at Southwell today with
3 fibresand wins from 4 offspring to run here.

Has won 1st time after a long break before and is well handicapped with more to come. Ran in a class 3 on hcap debut. Wiser now in class 4. Should relish the surface and improve for it and steps up to his optimum trip of 7f for the 1st time. Could be very hard to beat here.

What a disgrace once again from Brisland and O'Neil. They are running like dogs.

Classified races are not recognised by me so no selection in the 2:00.

                2:30 BEDTIME BELLA

                win 6.6
                2 place 3.0
                3 place 2.0

Looks the strongest bet at The Festival today. The team are strongly predicting 'winner' here.

What a fantastic finish to another Festival of Fibresand as Super Selma delivers once again.
