Clonbanan Lad

De Bromhead Stable Tour 9.2012

We have been very fortunate to get this fellow. He looks a very exciting prospect. He had some good bumper form last year. He won a bumper in Limerick and he went on to win impressively in Naas for Mikey O'Connor. If we can just get him to reproduce his bumper form we'd be happy as ome of his runs last year were savage. He is a smashing horse and loves the winter ground so we will get him going over hurdles and see how we go with him. he has won a point to point already and is a great addition to the yard

Clonbanan Lad (6yo, H De Bromhead)

Mikey O'Connor did well with Clonbanan Lad in bumpers last year but it's fair to expect a significant step forward for a move to one of the best around in Henry De Bromhead and that looked the way of things on his hurdling debut at Punchestown where the six-year-old made all the running and ran out an easy winner.

I like the fact that he is out early as it suggests his training regime has gone smoothly at home and his bumper form from last year looks strong, particularly the easy defeat of the highly-rated Mozoltov at Naas. He wasn't disgraced on faster ground in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham but looked over the top at Punchestown and that run is worth forgiving. Soft ground seems important to Clonbanan Lad but that won't be a problem in Ireland he shows a lot of speed for a winning pointer.
