  • 2016 Triumph Hurdle

Any early strong views on this ?

I am/was very sweet on Leoncavallo but I'm undecided after todays narrow win at Wetherby.
Doesn't have the required flat rating to win a Triumph but his trainer has said the horse is a different animal over timber.
He hacked up in a couple of average novices over the Summer then took a major step up in a decent 3yo hurdle at Market Rasen where he carried a double penalty and came 14 lengths clear without coming off the bridle.
That day he demolished his opposition which included a couple of ex flat recruits who were rated in the 80's, the form of that race would put him in with a real shout but he does seem to be ground dependent so how much more we see of the horse between now and March is an unknown.

His win today was by the shortest of margins and doesn't stamp his festival crudentials but it was the first time he's encountered soft ground.

There's a good Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham on Paddy Power day and with usual decent ground there he could contest that one then disappear for a rest.

Every chance the winner hasn't been out yet of course....

I see JFK is in the betting with a couple of firms

If I had to ave a bet at this stage I'd be siding with Oceane but that would be a very tentative selection indeed.

To early to say yet, a few nice 3yo's changed hands at the HIT sale past few days, something may emerge from there or it's still sat in a field in France

Rashaan has made two impressive starts in Ireland so far, winning both his races, one at 33/1 on debut the other at 5/4. Bred by the Aga Khan and in training with Colin Kidd, both his victories were quicker than the tracks average times, one to keep an eye on on his next start which is said to be the Grade 3 juvenile on Hatton's Grace Day at FairyHouse

Another good performance by Rashaan today, will wait for the dust to settle, but he powered away from the fav in good style, might have to have a bit of the 20s on offer because I can see him changing hands soon

Impressive. Owner said he is not selling but probably a good place to start a negotiation.

              From AOB fansite

Cradle Mountain and Ivanovich Gorbatov are both entered over hurdles on sunday at Cork in The Galtee 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle for 3-y-o over 2 miles. Cradle Mountain remains in ownership of Annmarie O'Brien where as Ivanovich Gorbatov has been purchased by J P McManus both Horses remain in training with Aidan.

IVANOVICH GORBATOV (12.10) looks like a good recruit to hurdles. He won his maiden on the flat at Navan last May over a mile and five furlongs, and he followed up by winning a handicap at Leopardstown off a mark of 97. He is rated 105 on the flat and I am looking forward to riding him on this, his debut over hurdles.

Irish trained really do have a poor record in this.

                            Ivanovich Gorbatov

Ivanovich Gorbatov put up a really good performance to win the juveniles’ maiden hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday.

There really was an awful lot to like about this performance from Aidan O’Brien’s horse. He travelled well through his race, his jumping was really good for a debutant, he moved up nicely on the outside of Let’s Dance on the run to the final flight, and he picked up impressively on the run in to put two lengths between himself and Willie Mullins’ filly to win, eased down. Let’s Dance is a really highly-regarded filly from the Willie Mullins’ yard. She was sent off the 4/7 favourite for this, and she was backed in to favouritism for the Triumph Hurdle in most lists on Sunday morning. She probably ran her race, the front pair were clear. It is probable that the confidence in her is not misplaced, that she was just beaten by a better horse on the day. Also, the winning time was really good, the fastest of the four hurdle races run over two miles on the day, 3.4secs faster than Long Dog clocked in the Grade 1 hurdle and significantly faster than the maiden and the handicap, which is impressive for a juvenile hurdle in which the two protagonists were making their debut over hurdles.

Ivanovich Gorbatov is a really exciting recruit to hurdles. He won his two races as a three-year-old on the flat for Aidan O’Brien, and earned an official rating of 105 in the process. That is a high rating for a horse who raced just three times, he probably could have gone higher if he had raced on on the flat but, even with a rating of 105, he is a high-class recruit to hurdles. He stays well, and he sets the standard for the Triumph Hurdle.
