Thyestes over so time for a thread . Probably some overlap with the 4 miler at Cheltenam.

Rich Revival has Irish National target

    Mon 28th Jan 2013, 15:46

Rich Revival pictured on his way to victory at a foggy Navan earlier this Progressive chaser Rich Revival could have the rest of his season geared around the Ladbrokes Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse over Easter.
Now nine, Liz Doyle's gelding has only run twice over fences but won both starts in a beginners' race at Fairyhouse and then when staying on to land a handicap chase at Navan.

"I think we'll stay down the handicap route and possibly the Irish National is the race for him," Doyle said.

"He's rated 129 now, and you'd hope he could sneak in off a nice weight

"The four-miler at Cheltenham had crossed my mind, but I'm not sure all the ups and downs, particularly on quicker ground, would be ideal for him and it's probably not the race to go for."

Senior National Hunt Handicapper Noel O'Brien gave his views on some of the field after the weights were unveiled:-

“There are 82 entries although unfortunately Bog Warrior was injured at Cheltenham. He would have been an interesting one.

“Heading them is Quel Esprit, a Grade 1 winner in the past and he had a very encouraging run at Leopardstown last time. He's dropped from his high to a rating of 157.

“Unless you are rated above 130 it doesn't look like you'll get a run. Lion Na Bearnai got a very stiff penalty of 27lb prior to the race last year but wouldn't have got in but for that and went on to win.

“Boston Bob was unlucky at Cheltenham and is toward the top end.

“Alderwood started off last season winning at Killarney before going on to score at three festivals and looks to be heading the same direction after a good win at Cheltenham.

“Bob Lingo won last year's Galway Plate and Forpadydeplasterer is a great old servant. Boston Angel ran quite well in the cross country at Cheltenham.

“Competitive Edge was impressive last time. Rich Revival will be one of the favourites while Romanesco ran very well at Cheltenham.”

“It looks a high-class renewal and very competitive.”

The two that appeal to me at the minute are Home Farm who has a similar profile to 2011 winner Organisedconfusion and Marasonnien who looks an out and out stayer. They both should get a run with a nice weight and after all the rain around they will have their preferred ground

Marassonnien caught my eye too...think he might be Mullins best chance. The nice weight thing is vital. Will probably wait for decs though. Any thoughts on top weight...presume QE goes to Aintree ?

Rich Revival has won his last three starts in the style of a progressive performer and seems certain to get his favoured soft ground.

"He runs in the Irish National. The only worry we had was the ground, but that looks like it's going to be OK as we're washed out over here," said the County Wexford trainer.

"Everything will be spot for him ground-wise as he would need the word soft in it to run.

"It looks like we're going to get that, he has a lovely weight (10st 3lb) and we're looking forward to running him.

"He jumps well and travels really well. That's what you need for a race like that. A nice weight should give him a bit of a chance."
