The Punchestown Gold Cup is run on the Wednesday of the festival over 3 miles 1 furlong. It is a Grade 1 race. This years race is scheduled to take place on Wednesday the 24th of April.
Potential runners include the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2nd and 3rd Sir Des Champs and Long Run.
Last years renewal was postponed from its normal slot until Saturday which allowed China Rock, who had run 4 days previously in the Punchestown Champion Chase, to take his chance and cause a 20/1 upset. Prior to last year 7 of the previous 8 winners had run previously at the Cheltenham Festival (6 in the Gold Cup, 1 in the Ryanair).
