Punchestown Champion Chase Trends

Age: Paul Nicholls has won this race twice since 2008 with with 6 years olds in Twist Magic and Master Minded. The winner is most likely to come from the 8-10 age bracket but since these also cover most of the field that might not be useful in narrowing the field. Sizing Europe was the first 11 year old plus winner since Eddie Wee in 1987 in 2014

Starting Price: 5 favourites have won in the past decade with overall performance 1 2 1 5 1 3 2 1 1 F

Market Position: 9 of the last 10 winners have been priced at 8/1 or less (Golden Silver was a 12/1 winner in 2010). The winners market position was   2 1 4 1 1 5 2 1 1 4 over that period.

Trainer: Paul Nicholls has won twice in the last 7 years and British trainers have won 8 of the past 18 renewals.

Prep Races: Seven of the last ten winners have had their last race in the Cheltenham Queen Mother Champion Chase though only Sprinter Sacre, Newmill and Master Minded have doubled up. 5 of the last 9 Tingle Creek winners have gone on to complete the double.
