RSA Chase 2012
Wed, Mar 14th, 2012

Barry Geraghty's tips really came good on the second day of the 2012 Cheltenham Festival and he gave Bobs Worth a great ride to see off First Liuetenant in the 2012 RSA Chase. We have the full result  of the 2012 RSA Chase here:

It looks like Grand Crus will start favourite with Bobs Worth next in the market. Gigginstown maybe doubly represented. Paul Nicholls trained Join Together looks like Ruby Walsh's mount. Latest gossip on runners on riders on the RSA Chase Thread on our forum.

RSA Chase 2012 Jockey Tips : We asked Barry Geraghty, Richard Johnson, Robert Thornton and Jason Maguire for five £20 bets on the Cheltenham festival. You can get these tips here. Barry Geraghty won this on Paul Nicholl's Star De Mohaison in 2006 and Richard Johnson landed the prize on One Knight in 2003. In the 2012 renewal we expect Barry to ride last years Albert Bartlett winner Bobs Worth. It looks like Robert Thornton will have to make a tricky choice to make between Walkon and Invictus. With no McCain or Hobbs entries we don't see an obvious ride for Jason Maguire or Richard Johnson this year.

Fatstats: RSA Chase Ten Year Trends

Last Run: The last ten winners all finished first of second on their prep run and ran between 24 and 53 days before the race. The last 48 winners have ran in the calendar year. First Lieutenant and Grand Crus have not had a race in 2012.

Experience: The last ten winners have all had at least three runs over fences. The last nine since Hussard Collonges in 2002 have finished in the first three in a Grade 1 or Grade 2 Chase.

Starting Price: The favourite won the 2007, 2008 and 2009 renewals and have ten year numbers of 5532P1115. This has been a good race for outsiders. Bostons Angel was a 16/1 winner last year. Rule Supreme and Hussard Collonges have won at 25/1 and 33/1 in the last decade.

Age: 7 year olds have won 8 of the last 10 renewals ( from c. 40% of runners). The 5 year old allowance has been cut 9lbs since Star De Mohaison won.

Trainers: Paul Nicholls and Wille Mullins have eached trained two winners in the last decade. Normally we would expect Ruby Walsh's pick in the race to be informative. This year his choice is restructed as the leading Willie Mullins hope Sir Des Champs is owned by Gigginstown House Stud.Davy Russell will have first choice on this horse.

Trial Races : The Feltham won by Grand Crus at Kempton in 2011 is a not a good pointer. The seventeen horses who have won and have tried to double up in the RSA have all failed. Albertas Run has been the only one winner of the Reynoldstown at Ascot to double up in the last deacde. Invictus won the Reynoldstown in 2012.
