Cheltenham Festival Hall of Fame: Timmy Murphy
Thu, Jan 16th, 2014

The first currently active jockey to make our Cheltenham Festival Hall of Fame is Timmy Murphy. Timmy has notched up eight Cheltenham Festival wins between 1997 and 2009. He needs just one more win to move into the top 20 winning most Cheltenham Festival jockeys since 1945.

Here are Timmy's Cheltenham Festival wins to date.

Timmy Murphy is widely acknowledged as one of the most stylish jockeys in the weigh room. He joined an elite group of jockeys who have ridden 1000 winners under rules on 21 January 2010 when he landed a double at Taunton on Ghizao and Wizard of Edge. Timmy won the 2008 Grand National for his retained owner,David Johnson,on board Comply or Die.By our count he won 20 grade one races, putting him seventh amongst current jockeys ranked by Grade 1 wins. Michael Hourican's Beef or Salmon was a multiple Grade 1 winner for him in his early career but was a horse who never took to the Cheltenham course. Al Eile was another who didnt show up best at Cheltenham. We have Timmy's twenty Grade 1 wins here.
